What's your all time favorite Sci-Fi film and why?

I thought about this for a long long time, and after watching it again recently, I chose "The Black Hole"

There is something truly unique and beautiful about this film. I love the way space is depicted as being bright against the dark silouhettes of the ships.
It gives it an otherworldly feel I've never gotten watching any other space film. It really does have some incredible visuals.
I really like the concept and story, Maximillian is still ultra cool after all these years, and John Barry's haunting music just puts the icing on the cake.

Blade Runner- Flat out the look the feel the actors blew me away. I had never seen anything like it and liked the real dialog between the characters.

I was into Heavy metal Magazine and i felt it was like a story from the mag come to life. I always thought the future would look the same but just the Tech would get better.....Rutger Hauer gives an A plus performance and in a way you understand him. Sean Young was never better and of course Harrison Ford was amazing......

Original Planet of the Apes. No movie has captivated me like that one.

I'm going with "Star Wars". My jaw dropped open the first time I saw it as a kid and unlike most scy-fy films from that era; the special effects still hold up and I still enjoy watching it as an adult.

Mine is Empire, a movie that only needs one name.
I had a brother who was handicapped. We had a half circle driveway, this is in CT. We would have a guy plow all the snow to one side of the house, this made for some massive snow piles. I would be out there for hours with my toys, making tunnels and crushing rebels. Sometimes the tunnels would cave in. I would find most of the toys in the spring as the pile melted away

The black hole. A truly dark film then a close second would be star wars.

Star Trek 2 the Wrath of Khan had all the right Sci-Fi mojo for me; solid story line, classic villian, and enough humor mixed in to make the movie enjoyable.

Well, that's a tough one. Based on my Mego collecting preferences, I should say POTA. But Alien is one of my top five favorite flicks. So, unless you consider Alien to be horror and not sci-fi, I gotta say Alien. POTA is definitely on my top 10 list, though. And the TV series is on my top 5 list.

I think Planet of the Apes has been the most enduring Sci-fi film of any I have seen. When I first saw that film, it hit me in a very primal place. I could watch that and understand the social themes at play. I truly felt the oppression the humans were having to endure. And even though I wasn't experiencing that in my life, I could apply that concept to real life events and develop an educated rationale as to why these things were happening. The film is quite brilliant in it's message to society about it's inability to free itself from it's own short sided views. That everything must have a pecking order according to it's perceived 'merit'. And that what is considered "knowledge" is no more than an assumption born of arrogance from those society chooses to follow. It's an impressive piece of work.

The original Star Wars not just my favorite sci-fi film but my favorite movie of all-time! It just knocked me over so hard as a child in the theater and initiated something that was such a huge part of my childhood.

I think it's a tie between Planet of the Apes and Star Wars. I've loved a lot of other movies, of course; yet, none have enthralled me like either of those have. They were both so original, they could really take you to another place as a kid in the 70s.
