    Hey Brian,

How is Mysterious Island? I'm off with the kids today (Presiden'ts Day), and may take them to the movies. I was leaning toward Star Wars, taking one for my son who is a huge SW fan. But if Journey is any good...

It's a predictable, by the numbers doldrum to be honest. My daighter is 6 and she liked it, the scares are just of the "make you jump" variety and not of the 'nightmare fuel' type.

I enjoyed the looney toons short with Mel Blanc more.

It's better than Phantom Menace IMO, mainly because it's shorter and new to me.

Believe it or not, your parents cousins are your first cousins once removed to you as well.

No worries, when I was travelling with my parents a couple of years ago, I needed to figure all this stuff out in order to construct a family tree to figure out who how I related to various "cousins" I was being introduced to. It all started at the graves of my great grandparents when I was standing beside a stranger who told me that they were also his great grandparents (he turned out to be a second cousin, and his parents were my first cousin, once removed). I found some online tools that helped me figure it out visually. Geni.com is a good one.

Just as your cousin's son defines you as first cousin, once removed, you also define your parent's cousin as first cousin, once removed. Basically each "removed" can be "up" or "down" a generational rung of the family tree from you.

Well, the kids picked Star Wars, so we went. I actually saw it in a non-3D theater. I think this helped (and helped my wallet). My son loved it, my daughter was amused through parts, but fell asleep before the final battle and Qui Gon's and Maul's deaths.

Jar Jar continues to irritate, and the trade federation guys are even more embarrassing nowadays, but I only played $3, and my kids were happy. So I'm good.

The CGI didn't hold up too well in parts. Jar Jar looked really fake in several scenes. Now how come Lucas doesn't fix THAT?

How does this stand against other re-releases?

                The Lion King (in 3D)

Although here is the total worldwide thus far...

                  The Phantom Menace 3D
                  Worldwide Gross
                  $73,123,000

it's overseas gross of $37,100,000, essentially doubling the domestic. It will be interesting to see if this has any legs at all before hitting DVD/BlueRay/itunes

                  here's Lion King's worldwide total...
                  $168,542,001

and it looks like Toy Story and Beauty and the Beast did not get a wide foreign release since they only did a buck and half on top.
