On my set up, it looks pretty good. There is excessive grain in some shots (the sun in the Harry Canyon prolouge, the opening shots of Den) but again, the grain of 1980's film has made people balk at the Ghostbusters blu ray (when it is actually a terrific transfer).

There is some problems for me though on the sound remix. Some sound effects are mixed down compared to before ( like the transcom message service sentry). Also, I there are musical stabs in the B 17 sequence ( where the co pilot is grabbed by the belly gunner zombie and when the pilot opens the door on the zombies) that have been missing since the Legit VHS release (I am willing to bet your bootleg has them).

It's not that the transfer is bad, it's that 1980's films were made on such grainy stock and that shows better on blu ray.

The talk of "A" live action movie for Heavy Metal was talked about long ago but never has come to fruition. I would love to see something go into production and curious if the fan base is around. Only folks from my generation are familiar with it while the next generations have no clue.

I agree, Sandy. Moebius is god and very brilliant.

I've always loved the Pink Floyd omitted sequence of the movie, "Neverwhere Land". Makes a great music video.

As for the original movie, I love it but wish they went the with the original storyline of Taarna and focused more on Den as a separate movie.
The final result was brilliant as is the Bernstein soundtrack and music track as well. Both of which finally made it to CD. Would love to see a BR release someday.

Just watched the movie this morning, as part of my Halloween weekend movie marathon.

I love the movie. I remember sneaking over to the theater to see it in my early teens. (my mom said there was no way I was seeing it, so one afternoon I rood my bike across town to the only theater we had and watched that and Cheech & Chong's Nice Dreams, double feature)

Most expensive video tape I bought when it was finally released on video.

Never saw the South Park version until now, thanks for the link.

I love the South Park parody!

I love the rotoscoped planes in B17 and the rotoscoped moving background in Tarna. Actually it wasn't exactly rotoscoped. The models were made and painted white with black line detailing and filmed against white. They actually printed the footage in high contrast on acetate and painted it like cels.

my favourite sequence was always the B17... the realism of those initial moments were so shocking to me as a kid that it was almost a relief when the zombies showed up.

Mobius is God. Plain and simple-- Pure genius. I love the Heavy Metal animated film. I watch it often. Great soundtrack by Elmer Bernstein and the John Candy VO for Den is so perfect, I can't even contain myself.

But unless they're the original comics, directed by the artists that created them; Enki Bilal, Richard Corben, Mobius, Phillipe Druillet, Caza, etc-- I'll pass. Looks kinda dumb... I own and have read every issue up to the early 90's cover to cover, many times and don't remember anything like what I just watched. Like someone else said, what made those comics so incredibly cool and unique, was how avant-garde and over the top they were. No one would ever produce them as is-- Not here in the states anyway...

100% agree..............W T F did i just see?...whatever that was, it was NOT Heavy Metal not even close......

Just like you Sandy I have every single issue. My sisters boyfriend at the time knew i loved comics and one day he said you ever read this?.....I was blown away.....I always thought comics were about superheroes boy was i wrong. I quickly went and bought all the issues that I was missing and never ever missed an issue after that.

The artist and stories had a profound influence on me......

I remember I was so excited when i went to see the movie it blew me away....one of my all time favs.....
