I think The Matrix would have been a good stand alone, as well, but RELOADED and REVOLUTIONS probably could have been better films had the Wachowski Brothers turned the directing duties over to other directors, just to get a different vision of the Matrix-verse. Think of a Matrix-verse movie directed by the likes of Ridley Scott....!!!

Frankenstein / Bride Of Frankenstein: Since these two movies together somewhat cover the content of the original novel, I consider the latter to be a necessary sequel. However, the sequels that followed, I believe, initiated the trend of endless sequels which dilutes the genre to this very day.
Psycho – This classic movie stood on its own and the sequels were nothing more than ridiculous farces that insulted the integrity and honesty of the original film.
Planet of the Apes – The original film was a classic that needed no expansion. Even though I enjoyed the sequels when I was a kid, as an adult it’s clear to me that they are nothing more than low budgeted attempts to capitalize on the success of the first film without bothering to offer up anything new to the story. The scripts were half-hearted attempts, at best, and the budgets were regressively and aggressively reduced. It would have probably been better to simply spin it off into a TV series after the first film. (Don’t get me started on the two most recent efforts…yikes!)
The Omen & The Exorcist – Perfect examples of excellent original genre novels with great film adaptations that were eventually reduced to cheesy franchises…similar to what happened with Jaws.
Alien – Even though I enjoyed Aliens, it really wasn’t necessary and it added nothing more than some “action” to the original story. Cameron’s offering would have been just as effective if it had featured some other alien species from some other place of origin.
Pirates of the Caribbean – The first film made for a fresh & original movie experience. As much as I liked the character of Jack Sparrow and looked forward to the first sequel, I have found all 3 of the sequels to be nothing more than a pillaging & plundering of the original.Unfortunately, the sequels have damaged the reputation of the first film, which really was an excellent story.

I loved the original Frankenstein. But as much as it's hard to argue the sequels, they did do a superior job on Bride. I think Frankenstein was worthy of two films. Both films were artistic expressions. After that it became commercial.Comment

>What about Death Wish? The first one really had a point. After that it turned Charles Bronson's character into a parody.
Good point. It also suffers from the franchaise continuing on past a shift in film attitudes: the first was made in the 70's, when dark, bleak violent films were acceptable; the last in the 80's.... post "Commando".... when action films had been cartooned up.

Starship Troopers- The Sequels seemed to forget the original was being ironic.
Robocop- One and done.
Jeepers Creepers- Nothing else to add
Pumpkinhead- See Jeepers Creepers
Nutty Professor- I am still washing my eyes from the horror of the Klumps.
Bill and Ted- I really didn't need to see more adventures.
Agree on Back to the Future and Caddyshack.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Oh yeah! I forgot that one! (THANKS for bringing it up. Oh, the pain....the pain....) Actually, it could have A sequel.... just not THAT sequel.
>THE BLUES BROTHERS

Was it ironic, or just bad?
>I consider Death Wish 3 one of the best unintentional comedies put to film.
It's always good to see someone making material for "Mystery Science Theater 4000."

The end scene of Bronson and Ed Lauter running down the street "wasting creeps" (seriously they use "creep" like "smurf") brings tears to my eyes, they may as well be holding hands and skipping.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

Now I disagree with Back to the Future, but only because the sequels were fun. Sure they did not really add anything, but they were just plain fun.
My List...
Anything with Chucky in the title.
How many Friday the 13th movies have there been? I am not sure that should have ever gone past the first.
Freddy Krueger was great... once!
Star Wars had the Empire Strikes Back justified, but should have stopped there.
Terminator lost my interest after the first one.
Aliens: once you have seen the first you have seen the rest.
Weekend at Bernies. How many times can he die.
Dirty Dancing the redo is not out yet, but some films are best left alone."Procrastination is the art of planning for tomorrow."Comment
