You know I was watching this on Sunday .and even if it was a poor laserdisc copy and a pity disc from Lucas as part of the 2006 re- release its still very cool. I had not watched it in a while and the Space Battle over Endor was just Magical I miss the Motion Control model work of yester year! Phil Tippet, Dennis Muren, Richard Edlund, and Joe Johnston were and are brilliant!

That is one of the reasons why I am really looking forward to blu-ray release later this year. As much as Lucas is bashed for his constant re-releases and not so good 3 prequels; I think his studio will do a top notch job on this."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

That will come a few years down the road....but I'll take what I can get. I think back to how many versions of these movies I have purchased over the years...VHS, DVD, non theater version, the prequels, now the blu rays....."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

I really get tired of updating formats for video. I still have VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray. Some movies I watch once a year or so. I can't see spending money to upgrade. I watched Episode 2 the other day on DVD. I'd never spend the money to upgrade the prequels, they just don't look good as the CGI technology keeps getting better. It's an endless spending cycle.sigpic "It's like you're unravelling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting..."Comment

I also enjoyed ROTJ in the theaters and like seeing the original theater version, too. It makes me all warm and fuzzy. Like an Ewok.Actually, I probably one of the few that like the nub nub song a the end rather than then new across the galaxy version.
It's all good!Comment

I love the originals, dislike Phantom Menace, but like the last two prequels, but Lucas does love to gouge the fans.Comment

The original trilogy will always be my Star Wars. Those are the movies I loved as a kid, and continue to love today.
I enjoyed some of the additions GL made to the special editions, but it's certainly nice to have the original unaltered theatrical versions in a digital medium, even if it is just the old Laserdisc transfers.
My old VHS tapes are well worn by now, to say the least.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

I agree with Bruce. I'll always enjoy the original three over anything else. Better cast, better stories, and far more compelling than the prequels. Jedi was my least favorite of those three, but it still buries the prequels. I think that film started the trend we saw in the prequels. Lucas gets so close to his creatures, he starts showcasing them instead of giving them story responsibilities. Example, the singing/dance sequence at Jabba's compound. Aimless, pointless, and diminishes the feeling of any real danger in Jabba's layer. And as much as Solo feared Jabba, he was easily disposed off when push came to shove. My biggest angst with Jedi though is the completely uneventful demise of Boba Fett. I couldn't believe such a great villain was disposed of with comical undertones. It stings to this day.Last edited by MIB41; May 25, '11, 7:39 AM.Comment
