Well, didn't need to go to the DVD's all I needed was on the web. Loved how 2/3 of the rotoscopes used the early large deflector dish version model. John, you are right. That model shot was combined with the barrier background and used in all the episodes that shows the barrier.

Thanks Man! Am I using the wrong terminology? Is it only rotoscoping when the subect is moving? Is it not rotoscoping when it's a static shot or pose of the Enterprise?Comment

Yeah. Animation rotoscoping is when they take moving film of an object or person and trace it frame by frame and make cels from it. The still paintings of the enterprise moving across the backgrounds were most likely painted with those frames you show as reference (or maybe even traced) but it's one still frame. But since it is one painting, they often do more rendering detail with highlight and shadow, while the rotoscoped stuff has more basic coloring.Last edited by mego73; Mar 21, '11, 10:36 PM.Comment
