You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return... -
Years ago I would have said Way To Eden but for some reason that ep has grown on me over the years. Charles Napier is cool. "Am I crossing you, man?"
Same with Turnabout Intruder. I buy the actress who played Janice Lester as Captain Kirk every time.
Spocks Brain, Catspaw and Platos Stepchildren are all tough to watch.Better late than never.....Comment

The alternative factor and way to eden...
Lazarus and hippies blah......
Heck I'm not a huge tribbles fan either.Last edited by fallensaviour; Feb 22, '11, 2:10 PM.“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

Call me crazy but I was always crazy board with The Cage ... Even when I only knew it as part of the Menagerie.
I still remember back in the 80's making a recut VHS of the Menagerie and cutting out all the Cage parts
It was actually a lot betterComment

I'm rewatching them all in a row (and some of them I hadn't seen....I'm 33 and got into Star Trek with TNG and THEN the rest....) and the worst one that I have seen is The Empath. I wanted to fast forward that one from about ten minutes in.....
I'm in season 3 right now and it's probably for the best that the show ended when it did.....Comment

Yeah, the quality really dipped in season 3. The budget was slashed, Rodenberry abandoned the show (other than to insist they hawk his merchandise, like IDIC medallions), and Coon left. Fred Freiberger gets all the blame, but by most accounts, he didn't have much to work with.
I remember reading about Barrymore up to play Lazarus, but didn't realize his replacement was THAT last minute. Interesting tidbits about that episode. Sounds like they just pieced together what they could and aired it.

"Alternative Factor" and "Plato's Stepchildren" are the ones I'd turn off.
I used to hate "Omega Glory", but I'll watch it now out of interest.
I actually enjoy "Spock's Brain", it's one of the Third Year eps I always watch.Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I forgot about Omega Glory. That was like they had ideas for 4 different episodes and didn't know what to do with them so they just tacked them all together.
1. A Starship is found with the crew all dead and they have to beam down to the planet and spend the rest of their lives there or die from the alien virus. Bones must try to find a cure.
2. Captain Tracy of said Starship has flipped the nut and wants to rule the planet violating the Prime Directive. Phasers I tell ya! I need phasers and plenty of them.
3. They are held hostage on the surface during a civil war on an alien planet. They are relieved of all their communicators and phasers.
4. They find the opposing force has been culturally contaminated by exposure to the US Constitution and American Flag. No explanation as to where it came from. Spock spooks them with his eyebrows and ears so Kirk and Captain Tracy must fight manno`e'manno to prove who is right.Comment

The Omega Glory was written by Gene Roddenberry himself and was one of the plots pitched for the first few episodes when the show was first picked up.
But yeah, that episode was pretty blah. It was the episode that the GAF view master crew was there to take 3D pictures of for the reels though.

Mike, you are giving Spock's Brain a FOUR! And the Children Shall Lead a SIX! And then The Savage Curtain only gets a FIVE! I'll have what you are drinking!
Here's my SOBER scale:
And the Children Shall Lead - .05
Spock's Brain - 2
The Savage Curtain - 7, maybe even an 8. (How can you not like Abe Lincoln floating by the viewscreen sitting in his chair!)Last edited by megoapesnut; Feb 22, '11, 3:23 PM.Comment

There's just too many outstanding plot-holes.
One big example, it seems the Rock Monster is listening more to the baddies ... If that's true, why didn't he make all fake goodies too ?
He doesn't know what good and bad is ? ... His fellow aleins used for source material certainly do
It just falls apart too easilyComment

He's a rock, man! How much room for brains is there in a rock! I am partial to the episode as it was the first Trek episode I watched. Otherwise my rating would probably be lower. But NOT lower than And The Children Shall Lead!Comment
