Her heart was just not in it.

I like Geneviève Bujold...have enjoyed her past performances...she's actually an excellent actress (she has been nominated for an Oscar for Anne of the Thousand Days)...but I have to admit...she was all wrong for Voyager.

You know...Bujold was groomed to be a big star...but she was always a very temperamental actress and has been very difficult to work with...that's why she either quit in the middle of production (she has been sued several times)...or flat out refused roles.

She has shined better in French-speaking roles...but I've liked her in English-speaking roles like Coma and Dead Ringers as well.

She's a better actress than Kate Mulgrew...but obviously not for Voyager.

You also have to consider that the scenes with Bujold has no soundtrack nor special-effects sounds...while Mulgrew's scenes do...big difference...that tends to influence people a little bit...

Her voice is actually a carbon copy of Katharine Hepburns.
I think she is aware of this because for two years she toured in a one-woman show about the life of Hepburn. I actually wished I could have seen it. It sounded interesting.

I guess I'm in the minority for liking the Janeway character. Of all the new captains, I think she is the one most like James T. Kirk in compassion and action.
          It's all good!

right... plus Bujold's scenes are taken from the wide shots and don't include the cutaways and editing that tighten up the finished product.
            Fresh, not from concentrate.

Being a huge Columbo fan I could never get over the fact she was Mrs Columbo.

Even so Bujold seems to be sleepwalking thru the scenes. Listen to her voice. There's no inflection, no variation from line to line. The clips are Bujolds key takes because when Harry Kim responds he is out of the range of the Mic so we hear mainly Bujold's performance. Admittedly she's playing a Captain going over dry and routine stuff but in Kate Mulgrew's clips Kate seems more awake, more eneergized & more forceful as a Captain. Also my feeling is they wanted someone much older as a female Captain; perhaps as old as Patrick Stewart is. Bujold looks a lot older than Mulgrew. Maybe they wanted someone like an older Sigourney Weaver for the role. Bujold's voice reminds me a bit of Sigourney Weaver.

Back in the mid 90's I think Sally Kellerman would have been a great Janeway.

I could listen to her overly sexy voice endlessly

I agree, her voice isn't nearly as commanding as Kate Mulgrew. And Kate proved she could make it in a man's world when she played the slave bounty hunter in Roots: The Gift.

Janeway, like most of Voyager, was just plain boring.
The Vulcan, like most of Voyager, was supremely boring.
The Half-Klingon, like most of Voyager, was incredibly boring.

                      Did I mention "boring"?

My friend had a running gag about Tuvok which was very un-PC.

Vulcan's are almost always right about theorizing things. Tuvok often got things wrong. My friend turns to me one day after an ep where Tuvok get's it wrong and says , "I guess the send the Black Vulcans to a different school than the White Vulcans!" I was like Dude, that is so cruel!"

Here are some pics of Kate Mulgrew from last summer. She's aging like a fine wine. Check her her out with the plunging neckline and the cleavage!

Tis true that Voyager was a lot of watchable mediocrity. But I enjoy the nature of serialized TV trek, and it fit the bill for me most of the time, even if the characters never really developed much over the 7 years. The Doctor being the exception, IMO.

Mulgrew's one of those that ALWAYS seemed like an "older woman"...even
back in THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN yeas ago... but she paused
pretty well with that look... and has aged better than me
