Amen
I think I agree with everything. I liked Jedi but I can't argue with you. I worked with a guy who said when Jedi came out all he could see were stuffed Teddy Bears for sale, and lunchboxes, and bedsheets...
At the time, I didn't mind. But Lucas lost his d@mn mind, or showed it to us. I think he showed it as you said. The Prequels are such, raw sewage. I could write a book.
However, I have also read a critique of how Awful Empire was, it may be later in the thread I haven't read it all yet, but apparently the timeline is irreconcilable with Luke Training etc for days or weeks while Han and Lei are in Bespin for only a few days. I'd have to go look but someone made a timeline and it was incriminating.
I liked Jedi at the time because of the forest speeder race/scene, because Han got the hot chick, and I can't name anything else but I recall not liking Luke in his Black outfit at the end explaining Leia was his sister and the 3 ghosts of Vader, Obi-Wan and Yoda.
Jedi was the crack in all of the armor. I also read later that Lucas did the Prequels because they were based on his Backstory and he denied every mentioning sequels. I thought it was 3 Trilogies from Day One. That is how I recall. Lucas is a revisionist historian.
What did Orwell say, Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely? Lucas is proof.-

when it all comes down to it, i try to go into a movie without unrealistic expectation and just accept the movie for what it is....as a result I enjoyed all of the prequel movies. I don't love them the way I do the original trilogy but I liked them. The same can be said of Burtons Planet of the Apes movie. it was a decent movie in it's own right but had nothing to do with the classic series I grew up with and love to this dayComment

The one thing I have come to learn and appreciate about George Lucas is his ability to market his ideas effectively. THAT is his genius....only difference is how it was marketed to the public. And to this day Lucas keeps the license selling with tons of toys, a cartoon series, and promises of more product. THAT is what he does well these days.Chalwa AKA The Pre-Crisis Chris

I'm always amazed how much I see Jedi beat down.
Not necessarily in this particular thread but in most Star Wars fan realms.
Personally I like Jedi.
I think it had a good balance of fun, action and story.
Empire never appealed to me much because it lacked fun ... Also, it was a little boring.
Jedi, love it or hate it was never boring
I think Jedi was closer to Star Wars than any other movie.Comment

i do think the first films were better then the new ones, but not as bad as galactica 1980 was compared to the original battlestar galactica which was very good.. that jar jar binks, and the fact that all the characters became like a family affair was hard to take, but i still like them.what the hellComment

Oddly, (And sadly..) my wife PREFERS the prequels...She's crazy for the female Jedis, and loves the fast-paced 'KABOOM'-style scenes...We have had conversations on this, and have watched each of the six films several times together over the years. (The strange thing is, she mentions things like the 'romantic aspects' to the prequels, but to ME, those 'actors' look like two wooden dummys being knocked together...
)
Yeah, I have better things to do than to watch two 'dummys' gnawing through badly written dialogue in a pseudo-'Italian villa'.....OR some dude riding a CG 'parrot lizard' through a CG canyon to confront a CG whatever-the-hell-that-was....
Sorry George, to me it seems like you just pooped-out when it came to creative fuel..... An overreliance on CG that often looks like Sci-Fi Channel refuse, using limp actors, and pacing straight from an anime isnt creative, its lazy. I think things in general turn out better in life when you actually have to WORK for/at them.....rather than sitting in a chair pressing buttons and mumbling while you doze off and hoping for the best...Comment

The thing is MANY Star Wars fans can be fed crap and they'll complain about how much they hate it --- but they'll still watch it, buy it, and buy toys of it.
Lucas knows no matter what kind of crap he puts out there's always people there to buy into it -- even if they SAY they hate it.Last edited by Mikey; Feb 4, '11, 10:40 AM.Comment

My favorites are Empire and Return of the Jedi. I saw those in theaters as a kid. I was born when New Hope came out. I saw it on video. I find it to be stale compared to the two that followed but then I've seen it a million times so maybe I'm just bored of it.
The only prequel I'll watch again is the second half of Revenge of the Sith. I love both series of Clone Wars cartoons as they do a better job of setting the scene for the original trilogy then the prequel movies. I think Natalie Portman did the best she could with what she had and I swear I've caught her rolling her eyes while performing with Hayden (Manikan Skywalker). Ewan was awesome as Obi-wan but again, he was confined by what was around him.
The worst part of the prequels aside from Jar Jar and the other obvious stuff was Boba Fett's origins. I didn't need to see Boba as a kid. Or ever with his mask off. I didn't like that his "father" was the genetic donar for the Clones. ugh. Awful.Comment
