I didn't hate the Christmas special ... I thought it was at least better than "the Next Doctor" one with the giant Cyberman.
I think we expect too much
The only really good Christmas Special was The Christmas Invasion, imo
For Season-6 ...... I'm really looking up to the one filmed in America -- but I know the fact that River Song is in it is going to ruin it for me.
I wish soooooo much they were write her out for good.
I hate her more than any other character of the whole show ... Hell, I like Adric and Mel better than herLast edited by Mikey; Dec 26, '10, 10:56 AM.Comment

Hmmmm.... y'know, I don't HATE her, but I wish they'd DO something with her. She's kind of a watered down version of Donna with the obligatory "mysterious background." And I think they've been milking that one enough.

Hmmmm.... I think maybe you all expect too different.... I just saw the new special and I REALLY liked it. But I'm not your typical patron of the nerdly arts. I'm pretty much the atypical patron, really. And therein lies the rub. I liked the special because it DIDN'T have all the usual sci-fi stuff. I'm kinda sick of gruff space marines, whiney emo vampires, conspiracies, space war.... it's all played out. Especially since it always plays out the same. Stuff like this episode of Who is different 'cos it was all about characters. And niceness.... not the aforementioned space war stuff..... which is fine, or WOULD be if it wasn't always the same. Funny thing; this episode of Who was kind of the typical drama, except they changed how it works BECAUSE of the sci-fi stuff.... resulting in something different. Not only was the imagery unique ("Oh look, it's Santa and his flying giant shark....") but they did something unique with the whole time travel bit.
(SPOILER ALERT: by rewriting someone’s memory in realtime.)
In essence it’s sci-fi for non-sci-fi fans; which I think is great ‘cos it opens the genre up to new people and allows for new ideas. But I think a lot of old school sci-fi nerds have become set in their ways and don’t care for something a bit different like this. You see that when you see what they’re all excited about; stuff that runs as expected.
There was one strange nod to the old fans though: did you notice when they did the montage of Christmases that the young version of the old guy was wearing the outfits of the past Doctors? (Hartnell, T. Baker and Troughton respectively.”

Sorry Mike i love River Song and her "SPOILERS". i think Alex Kingston is having a blast whenever she shows up. it make me have fun too. this special was pretty good if you count it was Doctor Who doing Star Trek (C'MON that bridge set LOL) and trying to rewrite or reset the past like all the series did in time travel. Moffatt is using thier reset button too much already. I really need to watch the special again as i was at a noisy neighbors house to see it live. but it was fun."Hang on Lady... Loving the way the next series is shaping up, if it's anything like the last, then we're in for a treat. I thought the Christmas Special was the best one yet and had many great moments. It makes a change to see a special that has been written really well with a good plot and relies more on word play rather than mindless action. Take note Russell.Comment

This Christmas special also had more of a Christmas "feel" than the others.
I can't describe it.
It's no secret RTD is an atheist and this comes through on his specials as well as the general series itself.
I see the opposite in the past series and special after RTD left.
I don't want to see religion brought into the series, but it's nice to see it not subltly ridiculed on occasion .. even if it's called unexplained miracles that's fine.Last edited by Mikey; Dec 27, '10, 11:53 AM.Comment
