Over at the trek movie site there is alot of conversation on this subject. I would prefer something new as well. What people don't see however is that Nero kicked in motion the Kirk years way earlier than they were to be. Pike never has his adventures and Kirk has them instead. With that being the case, Kirk would be captain during the Talosian distress call, and it will be almost a decade before some of those other villians rise to power if you will. I would like to see Gary if they do a remake but the Talosian pilot episode would be intresting also.(Take Pike at the end and allow him to live whole)

I think revisiting old badguys is not the way to go, unless they're worked in in a peripheral manner.

The thing about the telosians would be does it translate into a good movie. At the time producers thought it would be too cerebral for TV audiences. And weve dumbed down alot since the 60s. The horta would make it a basic monster flick. And come on shoot it and its done. Alot of original stuff would not even translate. Cowboy world? Gangster world? (Although I like Capricas spin on it) Roman world? Space Nazis? Harry Mudd wasnt even really bad. Weve seen all powerful beings before....... I say Guardian of Forever. Jump around and really screw up the Star trek universe. Save Edith Keeler and make her a crew person. that sort of thing. Just cheese everyone off.

Many monsters that were not so bad (like the Horta) would have too much sympathy from the viewers because we know they're good but just misunderstood.

Personally, I think New Voyages "In Harms Way" remade for the big screen and rewritten to reflect the last movie would be a perfect sequel.

I think T'pol should have a small part in this movie because they mentioned Admiral Archer's prize Beagal in the last movie. I think a run in with old school klingons with flat foreheads mixed in with Klingons with ridges reaking havok in the JJTrek universe.

I'd love to see the Talosians as well, but I think it's probably too weird and cerebral for Star Wars Trek. It's hard to do something reminiscent of Tarkovsky and Phillip K. Dick when you're pre-occupied with your space battles, fight choreography, and which Beastie Boys song to use for your car chase.

Come to think of it, maybe it's just as well they steer clear of it.

                    I agree.

Next Gen would be more likely to do something like that --- and fail

What you have to remember is...this is a "divergent time-line". So events don't have to follow Star Trek:TOS cannon. New stories can be told, and well known Characters can be used...but things don't have to happen exactly the same way. The future is no longer set.

Maybe they could integrate Pike, Mitchell, Rand, et all better in this Trek series. Some of these people appeared as well-known friends of the crew in the series but were really only guest-stars for that week or were fired because they weren't reliable, ( Grace Lee Whitney). We could have Chapel and Pike's Number One as distinct characters played by 2 actresses and they could always make appearances as the story dictates. Hopefully he won't kill of too many, like Dr. Piper,(?), was mentioned deceased in the first film.

I'm kind of hoping they go in a new direction, instead of just rehashing old episodes.

Hated the new movie....hated the new ship design and hated the new 'direction' for the Trek Universe...the only thing I did like was most of the cast..except for Checkov and Scotty being made into little else than comic relief most of the time (Simon Pegg...What were you doing????????). Hated the plot holes...hated the bad writing...and hated the lens flare in virtually every single scene....this has killed Trek for me...they may as well have the new A-Team as the villains for all I care.
