Ya know, the more I think about it...Gary Mitchell makes sense. If you think about it...that episode is like Kirk and Spock's first real mission together.
Kirk still sees Spock as this cold, calculating Vulcan. Spock tells Kirk the logical thing to do is "Kill" Mitchell now, while they still have a chance".
Kirk still sees his Friend Gary, and hopes his humanity will win out. Of course it didn't...power corrupts and absolute Power corrupts absolutely.
But in the end...Spock tells Kirk: "I too felt for Mitchell". Kirk begins to realize that there's a emotional side to Spock. It's GREAT Character development, and a good start on Kirk starting to realize that Spock does indeed feel...and it's a step forward in their future Friendship.

Of all those Gary Mitchell would be awesome with a side of Klingon to go with that.

I agree, a Gary Mitchell plot would be awesome.

Ralphie May should be Harry Mudd! The Klingons should be mixed, some with ridges and some without as explained in Enterprise season 4. Gary Mitchell would be cool, who would play him? The Rock should be the Klingon Captain!

I agree Gary Mitchell would be a great villain and you make some great points.

But, Spock and Uhura getting hot n' heavy undermined that part of Spock. So unless Spock totally abandons his emotions and feelings for Uhura and goes total Vulcan, to honor his dead planet and nearly destroyed race, then that aspect of the character isn't really going to work out too well.

In fact, what I wrote above would be a great tract to take the character down. It would make him even MORE tragic, that he DID know love, and gave it up out of a sense of duty to his people. It would make for some great drama.

If you have Gary Mitchell then you have to have other crewmen that he kills like Lee Kelso.

But since Gary wasn't on the Enterprise, nor trained with Kirk, then they wouldn't have the friendship that made the original story so tragic. How about David Cross as Harry Mudd?

Theres a rumor floating about that one of the writers left his I-Pad laying about with a picture of an actress with vulcan ears photoshopped on. Now everybody is thinking its the female Romulan Commander from the Enterprise Incident....or Saavik...or Valeris. Possibly T'pring as well.

Personally, if they want this to be the new JJTrekverse, then I think they should go somewhere new, and not make the mistake of aping all the old episodes and movies. Since the last film had such a Star Wars influence, I would bet this next one will follow Empire Strikes Back in some way .
