I like both and view them about the same as far as qualities in a hero. Very similar in my eyes. Now I will say when it comes to Flash, I have only embraced the '80 film version. Never liked him enough to watch the serials. Buck Rogers the same way. Only like the Gil Gerard version.
Tough question; considering how many different permutations of each there's been. Complicating things is the idea that when both premiered as comic strips they were VERY different, but as time moved on they started looking increasingly similar.
I've got to say that i prefer the 30's Flash Gordon serials over 30's Buck Rogers.
I bought them on DVD a couple of years and was bored by Buck, it was so slow.
I have a question. Whilst watcing the Crabbe Flash i noticed something strange, where are Vultans wings? He's a hawkman.
I guess on the face of it i prefer the modern Flash and Buck ( although the Flash movie did owe a lot of the look and style to the serial ).
I'm gonna say Buck Rogers b/c I really liked the 70s series w/ Gil Gerard. But I did also like the Flash Gordon movie of 1980. I just like Buck better.

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
I've got a soft spot for the Buck Rogers TV series with Gil Gerard and Erin Gray. Sure it was kinda corny (especially the second season) but it has that nostalgic charm. Working with Erin on "Hunter Prey", I got some really awesome stories... They had a lot of fum making that show and her and Gil are still great friends till this day. Erin was so cool and actually was really touched that I dug the show so much and remembered so much about it, episodes, guest actors, even dialogue... Awesome lady.

Did she ever make any comments about be downgraded in the second season ?
It was such a shame to see her going from essentially Buck's boss to almost a stewardess with hardly any screen time in season 2.

She told me that the second season was always designed to be more about Buck and Hawk. She was bummed that the "sexual tension" between her and Gil took a backseat to as she put it; "The Han Solo and Chewbacca syndrome". I guess the producers and the network felt that a buddy situation between Hawk and Buck would get better ratings than a show that would take her character and Buck to the next level relationship wise, which though I absolutely love the Hawk character, would have been interesting to see as well. I personally don't know why they couldn't do both, but Erin just kinda shrugged her shoulders and was like, "Oh well...". She was a class act and had nothing but good things to say about everyone on the crew and the cast.
