I'd say about 998 out of the 1,000+ Batman figures that flooded the aisles all through the '90s.

I will limit to SCI fi properties (so drek like Robin hood gets a pass), while the execution was horrendous last action hero made marketing sense for action figures the film was aimed at a lower age bracket (the hero is a kid)

As a rule if a film is rated R toys for general release are a BAD idea (Mcfarlane makes his stuff for collector adults so they get a pass even though I wouldn't want them)

The Kenner Predator and Alien lines are good examples. cool Alien designs aside there were few children buying them, they hadn;t seen the films so why would they know or care who Drake, Hicks or Apone Are (unless there was a cartoon like Starshup troopers the animated adventures I've forgotten about)

Terminator figures - same thing cool design but kids probably hadn't seen the films so why would they care about figures

Demolition man - film was rated R and is a swear fest - not that I don't love it but I was in my 20's when it came out. no kids saw that film while the toys were on the shelf

or properties where the action is cerebral rather than physical examples are
babylon 5 and Star trek the motion picture if there isn't a bad guy they can physically fight action figures wont be fun

              Spawn.....
When Spawn hit the toy shelves i've never seen even one kid looking at them.
The only people looking at them were adults -- and they were only browsing - not buying.

Not that the Aliens weren't kind of nifty, but I don't think this movie has stood the test of time.

Although come to think of it....

Despite the fact that it spawned the tv shows, I'm guessing no one is falling over themselves to collect the Stargate movie figures.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I actually have Ra from the Stargate line and he is..horrible. Then again he had to be beefed up a bit for the little boys to want to play with him since the actor who portrayed Ra was very feminine looking. But made him awful was his gold color and his pharoah gun.

Ra was played by the transexual actor who also starred in "The Crying Game".

Altho'....even just ONE wave of Willow would be cool.

it was sucessful enough (they still ended up as a markdown at kb) but the buyers were mostly toy speculators. the same teenagers who were haording comics with variant covers to "get rich" later.
Like Mike I didn't see kids interested in the line.
