    Classic Who DVDs Today

Noticed these last night, I'm going to have to grab the Pertwee stories:

    Curse of Peladon

    Monster of Peladon

    Masque of Mandragora

I can't for the life of me figure out why BCC bundles certain stories that aren't even connected but then releases the Peladon stories as seperate ones though.

On a side note, the Doctor Who R1 art department really improved big-time within the last year or two.

Man, I was just noticing that the older Who dvds on amazon have gone down in price. It seems like not too long ago I was getting old vhs stock on sale as the first dvds were coming out. You can't go wrong with a Who dvd for 12.99.

In the UK the peladon stories are a box set. But the BBC goes to far (examples -Myths & legends 3 unrelated stories which have some mythical characteristics - Time World, Underworld, & Horns of Nimon, and 2 that only have a character in common Kamelian)
        Amazon.co.uk: doctor who - DVD Blu-ray

Often for the R1 dvd's only stories that directly lead one to the next get boxed together (Like the recent Dalek war and black guardian trilogy sets which start with a recap of the prior story each ep 1 of the new story, key to time, Rescue/romans & Space museuem/Chase for hartnell which the end of 1 story starts with the scene that opened ep 1 of the next)

I've waited for 'Masque' for a while. It's really the first glimpse of the show I ever had. Never heard of it, didn't quite know what to make of it, yet it kept my attention pretty well.

The only thing I dislike about the newer DVDs is they no longer have the Who's Who gallery like the older DVDs.

It was bad enough with the promo for the latest modern series box sets but now it is getting like olf VHS with 10 monutes of commercials for unrelated bbc stuff at the start that you can only wait for them to end or fast forward through

for what BBC charges on these that is just wrong

I pre-ordered Masque and it should be coming in the mail in the next couple of days. I don't recall actually ever seeing it when it ran on PBS in the 80's, but I read the book when I was in my early teens and really liked it. I've made it a goal to get all of the Hinchcliff Who's anyway.

I've been tempted to pick up Horns, the minotar creatures sound cool, but I've never seen this one and this is the era of Who where they can get really hard to watch for me. Maybe in a couple of years when it drops down to $12 or less.

                      I like Horns

It's not great, but i've seen a lot worse (see Bakers last season)

masque is an excellent story and a great sign off for Sarah

Nimon was an episode often criticized by JNT of what was wrong with the show before he took over. He went out of the way to talk about poor effects, shoddy sets, cutting corners because it was only a kids show etc. How prophetic that these are the trademarks of the JNT era

It's much better than Creature from the Pit but or Nightmare of Eden but this was a bad season followed up by a worse one when JNT took over

Masque was a personal Baker favorite for years.. All the characters were very well portrayed.. The story's 'slightly' padded, especially when Sarah Jane's kidnapped twice in a story, but all in all one of the best ones done. Sarah's sign off was actually in the 'Hand of Fear', but I agree she was at her final best here..

Season-14 was actually a great season overall ....

                            The Masque of Mandragora
                            The Hand of Fear
                            The Deadly Assassin
                            The Face of Evil
                            The Robots of Death
                            The Talons of Weng-Chiang

IMO, it's almost a perfect season ... meaning it basically has no stinkers.

BTW, wish they would release The Face of Evil already.
