actually B5 was pitched to paramount to be Star Trek and they vetoed it. Lo and behold along comes DS9.
I liked b5 seasons 2-4, beyond that it was really hit or miss.
DS9 was basically the same way except it was more like seasons 4-6

B5 had some weird special guests ... didn't Will Robinson, Chekov and Flounder play on B5 ?

I'm squarely in the Babylon 5 camp on this one, and I agree, Season 2-4 were the ones to watch. I'm sure the CGI SFX have not aged very well, but it seemed to me that B5 was always a step ahead of DS9 on a number of levels.

The big innovation of B5 was the fact that it did have an evolving storyline that didn't reset the status quo at the end of every episode, and it really felt like The Dominion War was DS9's attempt at that longer form storytelling, only they had to revert back every time because it's Star Trek. Although they probably have the best leeway from Roddenberry's vision of the future, because only half the cast were Starfleet, so you could have Bajorans, Ferengi and Odo running around doing "UnStarTrekLike" things.

Not to mention Dilbert creator Scott Adams.

          And Majel Barrett!

My son and I watched every ST from TOS-ENT last year. We both agreed that DS9 really stood out and may even be tied w/TOS as our favorite ST of all time.

I really like DS9 and TOS. I especially liked it when DS9 crew went back in time to the tribble episode with TOS crew. I thought it was funny that Worf has the new Klingon look and they talked about that when they saw the old Klingons. I liked Enterprise but they should have used TOS-like uniforms like in a Mirror Darkly. They explained the Klingons not having ridged foreheads on Enterprise when the human Data,Brent Spiner, made Kahn/Klingons or augments. I like Enterprise just not the uniforms except for T'Pol's ofcourse.

Same here. I bought all the Seasons when they came out. I watch them regularly.

DS9 was ok it got alot better in season 2 when Avery Brooks turned back into Hawk from Spencer for Hire

My favorote minor player in TNG was O'brien and he was the reason I started watching ds9. oddly the Dominion story line was when I got really tired of it (but it did spin off a great CD of rat pack tunes by James Daren I love)

Terry Ferrell was great to look

I never really liked the Section 31 plots. I felt that was too "un-trek-ish." I too was a big fan of Avery Brooks in this show and Sisko is the other captain most like Kirk in my opinion.
                      It's all good!

I loved DS9...to me it was the best written trek series....never anti climactic like some of its sister series did from time to time...the first couple of seasons weren't up to what they should have been but when Avery Brooks made Sisko a force to be reckoned with...the show really took off...the war arc was done very well and Sisko became the best war time captain trek ever had...I really miss it a lot

I always wanted to see that little beanie on him and a white leather trench. Sisco was my favorite of the captains. He was subtle when needed, but had balls the size of Neptune, and his adversaries knew it. He was the true poet warrior Trek needed.

yeah they were all on, Flounder and Will robinson were both regulars through the whole run and Chekov was a recurring villain.
they had a lot of people pop up on there - michael york, john schuck to name a few

I liked each new Trek series less, and DS9 started out with a heavy dose of talk and soap opera that just bored me to tears. Of course, I was a teenager/young adult then, so I may think differently of them now. I did watch the occasional episode, and it did seem to improve over time.

By the time Voyager launched, I was in college, and our TV choices were limited. So Voyager came on the local Fox affiliate every week, and I watched it out of lack of anything else. I kind of got into it, but soon realized it was actually not very good. The infamous episode where Paris de-evolves after going past Warp 10 and then him and Janeway get it on as slugs was just the final straw.

Was just watching a few of the last episodes last night on DVD ... I never noticed how annoying the new Dax was.
