Star Trek Deep Space Nine talk

Ever since the early/mid 70's I was a huge Star Trek fan.
When the movies came out I was in hog heaven.

When Next Generation premiered I wasn't happy (knowing it would feature an all new cast and set 100 years in the future) but I did give it a chance.

I was never a big fan of Next Gen, but I did watch it --- mostly because there was nothing better on.

    Then DS-9 premiered ......
I gave that a chance too --- but this show I hated.
To me it was boring and unStar Trek like.
But, I did occassionally watch it for the same reason I watched Next Gen.

After a few years when the Dominion War plot began it sucked me in.
By the time DS-9 ended it's run I was truly sad to see it go.
Yes, it was still unStar Trek like but I think grew into its own entity.

That's more than I can say for Next Gen which still had the 1000lb gorilla around it's neck called The Classic Series.

Voyage and Enterprise was and still is totally unwatchable for me.

As far as i'm concerned the Star Trek franchise died after the showing of the last DS-9 episode.

The New Movie is cool ... but I don't count that in my timeline.

So what do you think ?

Did you like DS-9 -- especially the last few seasons too ?

I loved DS9. Avery Brooks was the type of leader I always liked when I was in the military. I miss this show.

I thought the first few seasons were dull, but when Worf joined and the Dominion war got into full swing it really came into it's own. the final season was weak. I still think the episode where DS9 goes to war with the Klingon fleet is one of the alltime greatest trek episodes out there....I think it might have been the season 4 premier?
Enterprise I never could get into, i watched it once in a while though.
Voyager was another one that the first few seasons were weak, i did like it once they added 7 of 9. Not sure why. and i think Voyager also came into it's own in the last few years and was an enjoyable show, although I would never call it a great show

DS9 characters grew on me after a while.
        My favorite character is Quark.

DS9 is my favorite Trek. Everything after the 4th season premiere is great stuff. Before that it was hit or miss, but there are some gems there too.

I liked Next Gen too, but DS9 was the champ in my eyes. Voyager and Enterprise failed to grab me, though. I think the new Stargate is a far better example of the stranded in space setting, and of course, the new Battlestar Galactica beats 'em both.

As for Voyager, I would rather watch 100 hours of Wesley Crusher than a minute of Neelix. DS9 was OK, but I never liked it as much as my favorite TNG episodes. There were a few DS9s that I would take over some of the weaker TNG eps.

Loved DS9. Especially the later seasons. Didn't like the ending though. Kinda weak. Have really enjoyed the novels that are set after the series.

I have to say it was my favorite series of all the Treks. I loved the tension, the politics and the seriousness of the series. I know there were a few lighter moments, but having all of them on one space station on the edge of a war on two fronts was really well thought out and made for some neat stories and arcs. I thought it was compelling television, but then my tastes are usually in question.

I totally loved DS9! i loved Quark, too. The characters were great. I watch the series all of the time. I don't know why so many people dislike it. I definitely miss the show.

I loved DS9 because it actually took the step into the realistic plot device of warfare. It makes sense that all species encountered can be reasoned with. I hear Roddenberry disliked the Dominion war story but I disagree with him in that argument.

                      Hmmmm....

I didn’t care for Next Gen so much; mostly ‘cos the characters were WAY too perfect. Made them boring. Didn’t like DS9 until the season that was mostly O’Brien and the Doc hanging out doing space-guy stuff. THAT was awesome ‘cos you never see the ordinary people stuff on any sci-fi show. (So.... the Doc is a super powered mutate and they use his abilities to shake folks down at the dart board! HAW!) The Dominion War was where I gave up. Space war stories kinda bug me ‘cos I’ve seen it so many times before.

Voyager was a weird case. The first half of the series was WAY bad. But the second had some good stuff. Unfortunately they never took any of the ideas to any sort of conclusion. So.... Neelix dies, and suffers an existential quandary ‘cos the afterlife wasn’t at all what his religion told him it would be.... which is a neat idea.... but in the end it sort of goes away. Same with the Klingon woman’s disowning her heritage. (and they DID an episode about that!) Or half the crew being Starfleet, the other half terrorists. Or any number of other ideas.

I loved DS9, especially when the whole Dominion plot started, I wish they'd show reruns here. Voyager too, I actually like that show

I think all the Star Trek series had good episodes and not so good ones. I liked the Doctor in Voyager, he was really funny.

DS9 was more of a story arc type of thing and i can imagine the Babylon 5 fans liking this series.

I could never get into Babylon 5

I only watched a few episodes --- and that was too much for me.

I liked DS9 before it got on the Domnion crap. I HATE watching the same flippimg plot week after week. It's BORING! Michael Pillar said he saw that mistake w/ the Kazon on Voyager and stopped that pretty quick, only to do the same thing w/ DS9.

I was also pretty annoyed Terry Farrell couldn't stick it out one more year as Dax. No offense to Nicole DeBoer, but she just wasn't cutting it.
