Actually, I think the BBC would get more mileage out of hiring an older actor.

Young actors seem to use Doctor Who as a stepping stone.

I'd rather have someone semi established and is happy to just get work like Tom Baker was at the time.

It seems unconceivable the same guy that made The Empty Child, The Girl in the Fireplace, Silence in the Library and Blink is producing this new season.

This trailer looks like it was made by a totally different person.

Perhaps Steven Moffat isn't as great as everyone seems to think.

It does and I was totally surprised by the tone of the trailer. I still believe that we'll be in for a great season though. They have everything in place to pull it off; good writers and storylines, a great lead actor and guest stars, and somebody in charge who really gets the premise of the show.

All will be revealed from April 3rd.

Very much agreed. Just look at Hugh Laurie in 'House'. Other than my nephew getting me hooked on Tennant, I haven't liked a Doctor other than Jon, Tom and Peter.

Like Tennant told Davison in 'Time Crash': "You were my Doctor.."

That line actually got me choked up the first few times I watched it.

Even the final story is a turkey, imo
That is the problem with a more that 5 part story they just drag (even some 6 parters are tough nevermind one that is 10-War games, 12 Dalek master plan or let alone 14 parts like Trial is). the Key to time season long story works becuase while there is an underlying subplot, each story is self contained and written by different writers so each feels different.

It also didn't help that in the year lay off before it aired Niccola had to take another job to pay the bills and we go to Mel with no write out to Peri (nicely addressed in the audio Her Final Flight). You get stories that just feel like it was cobbled together using footage unused from another story.

Colin had his moments and in the audios his real flair as the doctor shines (partly becuase in his own words he was never given the chance to make the role his own under JNT)

Agreed. I never thought much of the 6 part eps of Tom Baker's days.. Even Seeds of Doom and Talons just didn't need to be THAT LONG. It was more 'padding' than anything else.., if you fast forward on some parts, it's much more interesting.

If you can't describe the 'back story' in that time frame, it's probably not that interesting anyways.

IMO.., the best Who eps were the 60-90m stories..

To be honest, I can't think of one Classic Doctor Who that was enhanced by being 6 episodes long (rather than 4) --- and i'm a huge Pertwee fan.

Even some of my favorite stories like Planet of the Spiders and Inferno seem to drag on and on and on ...

The Sea Devils was horrible for that.
I feel lucky if I can make it 3 episodes without falling asleep.

i'll disagree about Inferno (but it needs the the sidetrip to the facist uk to make it work even though it does little to forward the plot)

I think it's a cheese trailer but it doesn't crush my faith in Moffat.

As for the Six Parters, yeah, The Sea Devils was too long and made worse by the jarring electronic music but Inferno just seems to fly by for me.
