The only thing I liked about that was was the fact that they introduced the new breed of Alien (dog). You see the cannine type legs in all the Aliens now even in he AVP franchise.

Yeah, it's way smoother than the theatrical version, explaining more about the colony, etc.
It's typical; they take a director known for a very specific style, and then the studio wants to change things to score some more $$$$.
I guess they never succeeded in pushing it toward a happy ending.

Considering the other ideas they had in earlier drafts,it didn't turn out too bad.

I don't understand how flops like Alien3 even get made.

Sometimes I think there's a "The Producers" factor in making flops.

After the success of Alien and Aliens who's bright idea was it to make a movie that was such a complete piece of garbage ?

A few examples ..
Who thought it would be a good idea to kill Newt and even show her autopsy ?
Who decided Ripley should die at the end ?
Who thought it was a good idea to go from 1000 aliens (Aliens) to just one alein (Alien3)

It doesn't take a great detective to come to the conclusion Alein3 was purposefully sabotaged from the start.

No production company is that stupid to think Alien3 should do well.

All it needed was the song Springtime For Hitler on the closing credits.

I've heard stories from a few friends about how the thought process for movies and tv works, and it's kinda scary. Basically, the folks who get final say are FAR removed from the final product, and show up every so often to insist on whatever's currently "hot" being added. It frustrates the people doing the actual work, so that they give up and slap out whatever they have to in order to shut the execs up and get their pay. Anyone who actually CARES gets squeezed out or burned out.

....and it's not new. I've heard some funny stuff about "Rocket Robin Hood."

It's like I said, this movie is wallowing in so much nihilism it escapes grim and becomes a black comedy. The next is making sure a cute pet dog is the first chestburster (which was actually an already dead ox in the original cut, it actually was better and creepier then the dog burster)


Who decided Ripley should die at the end ?

I would not be surprised if it was Sigourney Weaver who wanted Ripley killed off because she was tired of playing Ripley.

But of course, they found a way to bring her back for Ressurection and Weaver had her reasons to do the movie (11 million of them).

I kinda liked Alien3. I was wondering what direction they would go after Aliens, either more of the same, or something different. It was refreshing to see a different direction taken for the threequel.
