Lost Season 6

Seems like the more people discuss the show and the finale, the more disillusioned they get.
They have come to realize we all kind of got played in a way. That doesn't diminish the joy that we got from watching the show; it just makes us feel like we got cheated in the end.
So many plot devices coming into play and then left on the wayside when it all came together at the end.
Too many unanswered questions.
Makes you feel like maybe it was all deliberate in order for them to still be able to milk the franchise (and fans) for more dough down the road when they do a tv special or a book that delves into all the unsolved mysteries.

No, I can't believe that. I take them at their word that they told the story the set out to tell and I believe they did it in good faith. This was the most ambitious television show ever made, pretty much. It didn't all work, a lot of it did. It'll be interesting to see what we think in a few years. It's been an up and down week for me. I had my dark night of the Lost soul last night, I can already feel that shifting again. I love this show, plain and simple.

From a creative standpoint it's really interesting to me to see what worked and what didn't. I think there will be a great book written one day about the making of Lost, breaking down what was planned, what was improvised, what was circumstance, what grew naturally from the actors, etc.

Oh look, I just spent another 10 minutes of my life writing a post about Lost.

And then they had to make Lost Megos. There's no escape for us, boys. Who's planning their Hurley custom outfit to replace that robe?

Makes me wonder how many of our unanswered questions will be answered in the Lost Encyclopedia coming out in August...if it's anything like the WWE Encyclopedia that DK also put out it'll be huge. And with the price at $45, I thing it will be pretty hefty, so hopefully some answers will be in there.

It's like, as a standalone thing it's really great, it was a great finale, very well made. The weakness really lies in the entire conceit of the Season 6, a choice they made long ago. The bomb didn't work: They didn't have to keep us guessing about that for the whole season just to have this...emotional catharsis. They could have woken up in 2007 and ridden the whole thing out on the Island.

Once you get to heaven you realize none of it mattered, all the worldly concerns...hatches, food drops, polar bears...wash away. They want us to let go...I felt that way for about 48 hours...I guess I'm stuck on the Island with Michael.

I totally agree, the finale was a nicely made well done finale.

It was the entire season 6 that feels like a rip off. The whole temple thing waste of episodes, and what was the point of Sayid dying and his resurrection? Do we know for sure the Smoke Monster brought him back to life? I didn't like the sideways flashes since they were not the lives of the characters that we knew....

I would have preferred an epic battle for the island between Widmore and Ben those were the 2 characters that I followed since season 2-3. And Jack and the real John Locke. I am in the John Locke got cheated camp...

MIB was a waste to me, I never cared about him vs Jacob. I never once thought he would leave the island, so it was just a matter of how they stopped him not if.....

I saw that clarified on another site that it will be both the complete and S06 sets.

Speaking of which---I'm not sure they ever did a good job selling the risk of losing. It was never clear what would happen if Smokie won...right up to the end I was believing it would somehow vaporize the Sideways world, but that clearly wasn't the case. Or Smokie would be unleashed and destroy the world, but that wasn't it. So the Island sinks---then what? The rest of the planet goes with it? The light goes out and humanity perishes because we don't have the Source to power our souls?

I agree...it was never clear exactly what MIBs intent was. Sure he wanted to "leave" the island but did that mean killing all the candidates first and then jumping in a boat or plane and heading to LA or did he always know that he was going to try and take out the source? It seems the whole notion of going down into the well of light came late in the game for Smokey once he found out that Widmore had brought Desmond to the island.

And Jacob always said if MIB was allowed to leave the island then evil would be unleashed.....he never said anything about popping the cork and the Soul Power would be gone. Maybe that's what he meant with his wine bottle analogy but that's not the way I interpreted it at the time. Sounded like the MIB was evil, he was somehow bound to the island and it was the island that was preventing him from leaving and unleashing his fury on the real world.

Once again, when you look at it on a whole instead of individual episodes it sounds like a bunch of BS and the producers had no real endgame....even when they said they did.

^ If it's just on the boxed set then that leaves me out....I already have the individual season DVDs....Why would I want to spend x-amount for the boxed set?

If that is indeed the case, then it's another cheat IMO.....

Back to the Finale, I see what you were saying about the Jack/Flocke fight, but...after him being Smokie the unstoppable all season it was cool to see him mortal and vulnerable, the Jack flying fist attack was awesome, and Kate using that last bullet was freaking great. It is odd that Smokie didn't anticipate losing his powers when the light went off.

It's weird....I wasn't overly impressed when I first watched it and was hit with the purgatory concept at the very end....I was like "Huh?! What a cheat!".

And I also didn't get what I expected I would with the showdown between Jack and Locke. I felt that Terry O'Quinn played it more as John Locke that night than as "MIB disguised as John Locke". Yes there was some malevolence there when he threatened Rose, Bernard and Desmond and also when he first encountered Jack. But once Jack stood his ground it seemed as though MIB shifted into more of John Locke and backed down somewhat...never unleashing his full Smokey potential.

I think that was my biggest disappointment of the finale....that the big and mighty Man In Black....the Smoke Monster....the major unseen threat since the very 1st episode when he ripped the pilot right out of the cockpit (and to pieces)...went down with a whimper and a bang from Kate's gun and then a nice kick down the hill from Jack. Boooooring!

Since last Sunday though, I've been rewatching the episode and have found a new appreciation for it. I still feel cheated somewhat but I'm really getting into the nuances of the Sideways world. Even the Jack/Locke scenes are starting to grow on me a bit. But I still feel that the ending was a cheat, a bit lackluster and that the major conflict of the finale was a snoozer.

With Lindelof going off to write the next Star Trek, which Lost actors do you think we'll be seeing over in that Universe?

Oh hell, I'm beginning to lose my faith. I enjoyed the Finale so much and felt so defensive about the thing at first. Griping about haters and so on.

But the thought came to me today as I was reading this thread that if you removed every single bit of the Sideways storyline from season 6 it would make no difference whatsoever to the outcome other than missing some wonderful acting performances by a few of the actors, Josh Holloway in particular. And that's...a heartbreaking waste of time. I loved watching the characters wake up, but honestly, you could have done the whole thing with a montage as Jack was dying and had the same emotional impact.

Which leaves about NINE HOURS of television time they could have used to flesh out their story. You gave me a Jacob/Mib episode, a Richard episode, now give me Widmore/Hawking--fill in the gaps between the 1950s and 1990s. Explain what Ben was up to on the mainland killing all those people with Sayid. Explain a little teensy weensy bit more about Desmond and the conciousness shifting. Take care of the pregnancy question with a quick monologue. Fix the Walt problem.

They fell in love with this Sideways idea, it let them have fun writing their characters, and they say that' most important to them, but...man, his feels like the Phantom Menace somehow.

I had always held on to my theory that Helen was part of the long con by Locke's father.
The only people that were reunited had ties to the Island.
