YOWZA!
What a ride!
So that's the origin of the Others, I guess? Sort of...
Where did they (MIB/Jacob's real mom) come from? Will that be revealed?
I can't see how they are going to answer ALL the questions in just two (3 1/2 technically) more episodes.

I think that's one of the mysteries that will stay hidden...I really don't see how they can go back to that considering everything else they need to accomplish.
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!
Glee's kind of peaked for me after they won sectionals. It seems now their just doing the romantic entaglement shuffle now between the characters, and I'm not sure if there is anyone I'm really rooting for now other than Sue (which isn't a great thing since she's "the villain"). I've been sitting around most of the new batch of recent episodes just waiting for Britney to say something funny.
Community on the other hand is my must-watch show. The Paintball episode is the best yet.
Back to Lost though.... that was certainly old school biblical wasn't it? And they even answered a loose thread I had completely forgot about regarding "Adam and Eve" in the caves back during season 1.
I was expecting the reveal on the cave skeletons to be Jack and Kate in a timewarp. the actual answer made sense too though.
.
great episode but I agree, i was left with a bunch of new questions too.....
did anyone notice that they made a point to never name MIB throughout the entire episode? I think his name must have some signifigance. Any Bible scholars out there? Who is Jacob in the bible and does he have a brother?
How did the "Mother" make it so they cannot hurt (kill) each other? What special powers does the wine have that makes Jacob the protector? It seems that secrets of the island were never explained to Jacob. So, how does he know what to do and what the rules are?
So who builds the lighthouse that jacob uses to watch candidates? How come Jacob leaves the island once he becomes the protector?
jacobs brother was esau in the bible thats who most people think the man in black is, esaus birthright was taken by jabob in the bible just like it was in this epsiode
A lot of the questions that I see getting asked here and elsewhere can basically be boiled down to "Magic" or "Mystical power" or whatever. I mean, at a certain point there's no real answer to some of this stuff. MIB's body went into the light and his soul became a Smoke Monster. I see some people on other sites who seem to be asking for some kind of scientific answer to that question, like that's even possible.
I do think the cave full of golden light was a bit cheesy and made me groan when I saw it, but they had to represent the power of the Island somehow and that's as good a God head as any, I guess.
Mysteries are always better than the answers, that's the problem with the end of Lost. Like Mother said, "Every answer I give will just bring more questions."
We won't get his name, they pretty much said so last night, and that made me laugh out loud--To answer someone's question, a lot of people thought it would be Esau, who was Jacob's Biblical brother, but thankfully these guys aren't ACTUAL characters from the Bible, that would be too much for me...some people thought they'd be the original, actual Cain and Able...I'm glad they aren't but they borrow from that story.
So who builds the lighthouse that jacob uses to watch candidates? How come Jacob leaves the island once he becomes the protector?
There is a lot more building to be done. The donkey wheel wasn't in place yet, and we know it is installed later, so I guess there are simply more generations of castaways over the years who build these Island landmarks like the Lighthouse. The Temple has a Meso-american feel, Egyptians built the Statue...

I think the Origin of the others was explained somewhat in Richard Alpert's episode when he agreed to be the intermediary between Jacob and the people who come to the Island.
Somehow I can't help feeling a little sorry for MIB.....
He got screwed, no doubt. After last week's bloodbath, he's unquestionably evil, but like all good bad guys he's got a compelling origin story.
But--I wouldn't want to be the person to replace Jacob. I liked how screwed he felt at the end--he had no choice but to take on this eternal caretaker role. I hope Jack or Hurley doesn't meet the same fate. Maybe this whole thing SHOULD come to an end. "It only ends once..."
I take her word for it that he couldn't kill his brother, the power source ripped his soul out of his body. Remember MIB told Alpert that Jacob took away his body. But was there always a Smoke Monster and the soul merged with it or is the Smoke Monster the manifestation of his soul and we witnessed it's creation?
I wonder did Mother turn into a monster of some kind to kill that village? That was some serious carnage.
