Children of Earth was ok, but I didn't partically like it a lot.

    1. For one thing, it was just plain too long.

    2. It made Jack look really bad (giving away the kids in the 60's)

    3. Destroying of Torchwood was just plain too "epic" for a show that technically isn't canceled --- RTD loves trying to be epic

    4. It was too serious ... Out of the whole 5-ish hours we never got any fun.

I'm not saying Children of Earth was a disaster - many people seem to like it .... I just think it could have been a lot better.

I don't think it sucked...I found the US version much more accessible than the UK one.

Worst problem for me with Life on Mars (UK) was I couldn't understand half the things they were saying -- and i'm very lazy and hate reading subtitles.

If they used BBC English I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

          >Why don't they just put Torchwood on Fox rather than spend millions just to make an American version?

Name recognition. Nobody recognises the actors, directors, producers. Throw in a Jonas brother.... gold! Throw in a Jonas brother getting the top of his head removed by a Cyberman and I might watch....

I was talking to a friend about why BBC seems to have such great series right now (Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Being Human for just a few) and it just seems that the executives/censors/whoever is in charge either gives more credit to the viewing public or they are still willing to go out on a limb, unlike american execs. They have decided that the safe answer (redoing what worked before) is the only way. I just couldn't see an american version having the same quality storylines.

I think the whole redux thing kills everything. Threes Company (John Ritter) was a favorite sitcom. Years later my PBS station aired the British show it was based on, along with the spin off. The humor was mostly the same but you could see it had to be Americanized due to cultural differences. But thats a sitcom. Maybe the appeal of shows like Dr. Who and Torchwood is that the underlying backdrop/ atmosphere of the show is already alien to American viewers. I also agree that a homosexual hero wouldn't play to well in the States. (Even though Jack was a Bi-sexual character.) The only hope for this is to take it down to its bare concept And start from there. They could give vague hints to a connection with the British organization but that would be only for us to know what the reference means.

True; but then you'd have another X-Files clone.
