    Pick one: Holodeck or transporter?

    Hey Sci-fi geeks!

So lets say some brilliant mind from the future offers to build you ONE Star Trek device of your choice and you had to choose between a holodeck or a transporter? Which one would it be and why?

    Hmm...That's a real tough one.
I think I would take a transporter though.
So I could beam all over.
Holodeck would be cool but you aren't actually going anywhere in there.
    Except to pretend land.

      Good thread, Sharry.

Transporter...travel all over the world at will...Africa, Europe, Asia, South America...heck...even the Arctic circle & Antarctica...locally too...New York, Chicago, Miami, etc...

No plane fares, no security, no rude airport employees, no crowds...and best of all...no wasting time getting there.

Hell...you don't even need hotel fare...just beam to Paris...have bread & cheese with some red wine at an outdoor bistro...then beam back just in time for football playoffs...lol.

The holodeck would be good for recreating events that no longer exist...like historical events...like the gunfight at the OK Corral, defending the Alamo, chopping heads at the French Revolution, dining with Nero in Rome before burning it down, hunting dinosaurs with Ted Nugent, etc...

...that...or if you are lnto...ehem..."adult entertainment"...

Probably the transporter as well, but if it was possible I'd get both.

Those historical events still wouldn't be 100% accurate since the info would rely on what we know. You could have a general idea, but the details would be blurry, so what good is it then? It would work for certain events, like hunting dinosaurs I guess or dining with Nero, but not for everything

The transporter has the best money making potential.

Hell, I could make billions on it selling it to the US military as an invasion tool.

The Holodeck is little more than an amusement park ride.

I have to go with transporter

As an actor I'd totally go with holodeck. Besides, why worry about getting somewhere when you can recreate the place right there?

If technology ever advanced enough to create a holodeck, society would shut down. Why spend time in the real world, when the fantasy world is better?

Transporter....it would revolutionize the transportation and travel industries as we know 'em

You have just totally contradicted what Star Trek is all about.

Now go stand in the corner...evil one.

Yes...but I'd still jump into the hot tub with Cleopatra...damn accuracy.

I didn't know the transporter was a cloning machine.
