Disney to remake The Black Hole

    Didn't see that coming.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Being a HUGE Black Hole fan I should be excited, but i'm not ...

There's no way they can improve on the original.

On the upside, even if the new movie sucks, we should get some new toys out of it.

I liked the Black Hole but it's insanely boring for the most part.
If they could keep the spirit of the original but add some new stuff, it might be ok. I''m sure they won't though. They'll butcher all the good stuff.

I have to admit that I have never seen the movie (where's that other thread about movies we haven't seen? lol) I always forget that this one is out there when I'm renting. Maybe I'll make that a goal for the close of 2009.
          It's all good!

I've seen it a few times, and have been completely bored by it everytime I watch it. I would think a new version would have to be an improvement. I collect toy robots, so for me, the best part of this movie was V.I.N.cent. Max was too static or me. I just picked up a V.I.N.cent model from Ebay and built it. Nice kit. I wish I could get an action figure of him.

In a modern movie such as this remake, how much you wanna bet they'll change the heaven and hell ending to something more generic and crappy ? ...

as always, I will reserve judgement until I see and know more about what they are going to do.....I liked the original but agree it is a very slow paced movie

                    If i'm correct, that's a common misconception.

The Black Hole was an idea rolling around Disney's head even before the first Star Wars movie premiered.

The original didn't do that well at the box office so I wonder what the reasoning is behind making another.

It made a profit domestically even before you factor in foreign and video markets, it performed pretty well. By today's money it made a hundred million at the box office and cleared 28 million after cost domestically. My guess is the Black Hole likely doubled it's money when you factor in the rest. That's better than a lot of movies that get remade.

Exactly, plus we can't forget all the merchandising rights Disney made money on. Besides, the Mego toys, there were storybooks, comics, models, cereal premiums, soundtracks and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting.

Its seems to be a common misconception that the movie bombed.

The movie definitely was not a bomb ... It just wasn't the ultimate blockbuster Disney hoped for.

Also, it hasn't aged all that well bringing in no new fans over the years...

Most Black Hole fans are the original 30-40 somethings today...

It also hasn't made the grade as an official "cult classic" either - like Tron has become.

My biggest concern with the remake is "re-imagining" the robots to the point of being unrecognizable. Maximilian, the Sentry Robots, Old BOB and VINCENT are fine as is.
