Disney to remake The Black Hole

I think it's a safe bet that this is in good hands, after all Disney did buy MARVEL, so They have Plenty of writers to brain this one out!

I thought the original was a good try, but ultimately not a successful film (the movie itself, not its earnings). If they do a remake, i hope they remove the juvenile aspects (okay, the robots were cute but I want my sci-fi to be darker and more realistic). As a sci-fi fan, I hope the movie makes a ton of money. As long as sci fi movies continue to perform well, they will keep making more. And that is a win for all of us sci fi junkies!

Well at least keep Maximillian.I thought him,S.T.A.R and the Sentrys were cool.Have them look the same or very similar to what they looked like and get rid of the holy roller ending and make it darker.It will be a hit for sure

From what I've read, the home video revolution became an absolute Gold Mine for Disney because of their enormous back-catalogue of All Ages films, which few others could compete with (along with the Disney brand).

So even the box office bombs and mediocre performing films in original release (like the seventies animated films), eventually did make some combined big profits for Disney. Multiply this through all the format upgrades and careful generational rerelease schedules.

I think the ending to the original Black Hole leaves a lot to be desired. They don't have to make it a simplistic endeing but I could do without the religious and metaphysical symbolism. I think the way the 1979 Black Hole film ends is because they didn't know how to end it. If you look at many David Lynch films and his tv series Twin Peaks, you see you can have and ending rich with symbolism and not have to make it quasi-religious/inspirational to be ambigious.

That's the problem with most modern movies, there is nothing left to the imagination ... New movies spell out everything in black and white and take the mystery away ... There is no more viewer interpretations.
Part of the fun of an ending like the Black Hole is discussing it with your friends after seeing it... and everyone usually has a different interpretation.

Problem with the original was the three main heroes were bland.

It was slow paced because it was suppossed to be a haunted house in space.

I liked the ending. It left me thinking.

Movies today dont even want you to start thinking.

Besides they will cahnge it around to appeal to the teenage female market.

After Lost in Space , which was a dark parody of everything the original was , I just dont care about remakes.

Why remakes?

No one wants to risk a new idea. Too much money to be had.

Anybody seen Idiocracy? Get used to it.

Now that I think on it, if I get to se a Jonas brother diced up by a robot and electrocuted on a power grid I MIGHT go see a remake....

Odd thing is, I was in a check out line and picked up the little disney mag they put out for kids a few months ago. I flipped through it and found a comic section. They had reprinted the comicbook version of Black Hole and serialized it into the magazine. Maybe they were prepping a new audience for the upcoming remake.

PS The link listed at the start of this thread stated a sequeal to Tron was to be out by Christmas. *** How did I miss that and where the heck is it!!!!!

I am watching the Anchor Bay 1998 widescreen release at the moment its a good film .maybe its time for a remake not reimagined thats crap! If its being done by the guys who are working on Tron 2 Legacy at the moment its in good hands .this wont happen for another 2 to 3 years though if it happens at all?

whether the remake is good or bad, at least it will probably get the original out on blu ray.

I don't think they will do a better job but if someone came along who had a good angle on the story they could make something more out of it. If this gets the green light they're going to change everything. Don't expect anything to look the same. This re-make is probably motivated by some strange idea that they would make tons of money. I doubt that will work.

I liked the original movie a lot but the music was amazing.
The soundtrack is a must have.
It will be interesting to see how good or bad the remake is. If the remakes of War of the Worlds and The Day the Earth Stood Still are any indication of what we can expect then *Yikes* look out :(
