What gets me is the original cartoon was silly, I tried to rewatch it when I bought the DVDs and could make it through a few episodes. So for those how are trashing the movie is because they have nothing better to do.

Agreed. The original toy line and cartoon were aimed squarely at kids, not adult collectors. The initial mini-comics kind of transcended that, but the majority of the material was very kid-centric, with kid-targeted simple names and concepts. So a lot of it reads "silly" to our adult ears, removed from nostalgia. The movie plays around with that, since it's trying to appeal to adults (who were kids back then) and later generations, including kids.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it had too great of an opening weekend. I hope good word of mouth gives it a sleeper hit run, so we can get sequels.Comment

I intentionally went to a matinee showing because I wanted to be in an audience with parents and kids for this movie. I made the right call because the kids were enjoying it. I even heard a kid trying to urge Adam to say "I have the power!" in the final scene with Skeletor by loudly whispering the words. I loved that moment!
When I was walking out, I noticed a young lady wrangling 4 kids. The littlest one was bouncing around, clearly excited by the movie. We made eye contact, and I kind of motioned a thumb toward the kid and said, "That's what I wanted to see."
Also, great pics!Comment

Yeah, that's great! My son saw a kid mimicing lifting a sword and saying "I have the power!" in the lobby as we were walking out. I really do hope it has legs beyond this opening weekend, and maybe even improves due to word of mouth. Hey, Obsession did it!
