i started watching it last night. I have to be honest I thought the first hour was cheesy as hell. I get the throwback to the cartoon, but I see why it did not engage modern audiences. I doubt the last half will change much but i'll finish it tonight

I watched it last night and it’s just okay! Never saw the cartoon, never had any of the figures, never have even seen the Dolph Lundgren movie. So I didn’t know what to expect, no nastolgia for me on this one. It’s just too similar to any of the superhero movies that have come out the last 15-20 years. Nothing new! But I guess for kids this would be fun.
Didn’t expect it to be such a comedy either, I thought it might be a little more serious. But the humor wasn’t a negative, actually thought it was kinda funny!
And has been mentioned, a big time Flash vibe, especially with the music.

On rewatch I really noticed how much love Major Matt and Big Jim got in the toy store scene. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Ah. Yes, that's the thing. Too bad about the box office. Thanks!

Sequels or series on Prime might still be fun.
I think that the movie will be available on 4k steelbook DVD.
Masters of the Universe toys at San Diego Comic Con look nice.Comment

I think it's too soon to rule out a sequel, series or spin off. Henry Cavill's upcoming Voltron movie has a similar budget and is going straight to prime video. It all depends on how well the movie does streaming on amazon and so far, so good on that. You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. The big reason we will more than likely get a sequel, besides the streaming success, is the toy sales were through the roof.
Mattel’s Q2 Growth Story Runs Through Hot Wheels, Games, and Action Figures - The Toy Book
"The biggest winner came straight out of Eternia as the Masters of the Universe brand has more than tripled its sales this year, fueled by the performance of the live-action film from Amazon MGM Studios. When pressed about perceived underperformance at the box office, Kreiz reiterated the company’s long-term plan, noting that Masters of the Universe was not only the No. 1 streaming title on Amazon’s Prime Video upon its launch but also the No. 1 streaming film across all platforms globally.
“Because of the movie, we expect Masters of the Universe to be a massive action figure brand for Mattel going into the future,” Kreiz said. “This will be an important brand for 2026 and beyond. We own the IP. We own the underlying IP. We need to ignite it and delight fans.” "

No doubt they would have liked Barbie level ticket sales. But for Mattel it was still mission accomplished. MOTU toy sales more than tripled and global brand awareness hasn't been this high in decades. Add to that the global streaming success and very strong Blu-ray pre-orders. Also, no matter what the misinformation out there says, Mattel completely owns the IP.Last edited by Werewolf; Aug 7, '26, 1:19 PM.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. But MOTU is clearly owned by Universal...or Dreamworks...or somebody else!No doubt they would have liked Barbie level ticket sales. But for Mattel it was still mission accomplished. Never mind, I can't type that joke with a straight face. I don't follow that particular "influencer" so I don't know if he's still out there taking crazy or not.
Glad to hear the movie succeeded for Mattel, and is doing great beyond the box office.Comment

He's still out there striving for relevance, crazy as ever and opining on things he knows nothing about.
Someone on Mattel's MOTU forum mentioned doing a Mighty Spector Origins figure, and the reaction was amusing.
I'm hoping the overall success of the film will lead to more Movie Origins and a She-Ra sequel. I want to see a live-action version of my fave, Hordak!WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment
