i started watching it last night. I have to be honest I thought the first hour was cheesy as hell. I get the throwback to the cartoon, but I see why it did not engage modern audiences. I doubt the last half will change much but i'll finish it tonight

I watched it last night and it’s just okay! Never saw the cartoon, never had any of the figures, never have even seen the Dolph Lundgren movie. So I didn’t know what to expect, no nastolgia for me on this one. It’s just too similar to any of the superhero movies that have come out the last 15-20 years. Nothing new! But I guess for kids this would be fun.

Didn’t expect it to be such a comedy either, I thought it might be a little more serious. But the humor wasn’t a negative, actually thought it was kinda funny!
And has been mentioned, a big time Flash vibe, especially with the music.

On rewatch I really noticed how much love Major Matt and Big Jim got in the toy store scene.

Unfortunately, you probably won't. Box office was disappointing. If more fans had come out for this over the weekend, it would have undoubtedly helped, and gave us the hope of getting a sequel.

Sequels or series on Prime might still be fun.

I think that the movie will be available on 4k steelbook DVD.

Masters of the Universe toys at San Diego Comic Con look nice.

I think it's too soon to rule out a sequel, series or spin off. Henry Cavill's upcoming Voltron movie has a similar budget and is going straight to prime video. It all depends on how well the movie does streaming on amazon and so far, so good on that.

The big reason we will more than likely get a sequel, besides the streaming success, is the toy sales were through the roof.

No doubt they would have liked Barbie level ticket sales. But for Mattel it was still mission accomplished. MOTU toy sales more than tripled and global brand awareness hasn't been this high in decades. Add to that the global streaming success and very strong Blu-ray pre-orders. Also, no matter what the misinformation out there says, Mattel completely owns the IP.

Someone on Mattel's MOTU forum mentioned doing a Mighty Spector Origins figure, and the reaction was amusing.


I'm hoping the overall success of the film will lead to more Movie Origins and a She-Ra sequel. I want to see a live-action version of my fave, Hordak!
