    Remastered trek on space

Space channel in Canada is airing remastered Trek at 2pm everyday.
I've been watching them and must say it is very good and holds up very well even today.
Watching the enterprise orbit some very realistic worlds is extremely cool.
    Anybody else catching these?

Are you talking about the ones with CGI ?

    I don't like them ...

The change between 60's film and 2000's CGI is just too drastic.

They should try hitting the classic films with VIDfire and see if that would help easy the transitions

I bought the first season on DVD recently and I had trouble getting into it, I found the transition sometimes jarring and other times I just found the new effects kind of crappy. Overall, I thought it was OK but I was hoping for a little more.

Some of the little clean ups are nice though, they added some really cool little things i like.

Folks here have mentioned it's much easier to watch in HD, which I totally need to figure out.

BBC did the same thing with a couple of Tom Baker episodes recently, did a really nice job as well.

I picked up season 2 and I liked the improved effects....realistic planets, one of the episodes showed the shuttle taking off and you could see the pilot through the window. It is mostly subtle changes but I like it.

Seems to look pretty good to me the colors are so vibrant, and the transitions seem pretty good but I do have HD?
            Maybe that's the difference?
I'm not sure if they are broadcasting it in high def or not?
I do have big screen hi-def in the living room with a hi-def cable box.
I have been moderately impressed with several of the little things. One example being view-screen images from rear viewer now has two nacelles in the screen shot to let you know it is an aft view.I thought that was a nice touch. The new world shots as well I like.
Don't get me wrong I love the original stuff and would not give up my3 season set for the world but these do seem to enhance the visuals quite a bit.

I would really enjoy seeing some enhanced tom baker eps as you mentioned. That would be fantastic.

That is the difference! I watch them on a 65" HD TV, on Bluray...and Man they look BEAUTIFUL!! If fact...if they hadn't remastered them, they would have looked horrible on Bluray.

I prefer the original effects, even when they're bad, but I don't really mind this stuff. It's just another way to cash in, but as long as the originals are readily available, they can go nuts.
What I don't like is when people like Lucas mess around with the movies and put the original on the back burner, if it's available at all. I resented having to buy the new effects Star Wars trilogy just to get the theatrical releases as an "extra".
P.S. Anybody know if the original THX - 1138 is available on dvd? Is it an extra on the deluxe?

I preferred the original exteriors too. It doesn't have to look real, this was a sign of the times, and a piece of pop culture history. It doesn't have to be upgraded to be relevent. The original way was the best!

I enjoy the new effects but would be screaming bloody murder if that was all that was available in the default video formats.

I like when they restore the quality and take out defects in the original prints. I'm a little torn over changing classic shows with new effects. I've seen some of these and it catches your attention when you don't see what you're used to. As long as these don't replace the original shows, I'm ok with it.

As Mego73 said...the beauty of the Bluray is you can toggle back and forth between the old effects, and the new CGI...so there's no reason for anybody to be upset. Personally...I'll NEVER go back to the old grainy, outdated special effects.

Seriously though...the old FX really look like CRAP in HD.

I kinda like the new effects. Some are a bit off, but after watching the same episodes over and over and over for 40 years, its kinda nice to have something different to look at. Besides the original version is not only readily available, but is itself still in syndication. For what its worth, the people doing the new effects were smart enough not to do anything that tampers with the storylines or affects the portrayal in any way. If anything, it's added to the fun. for example throwing a Bird of Prey in with the Rommie commanded D-7's in the Enterprise Incident armada. I'm a Classic Trek Tech junkie and love seeing that kind of stuff.
