That's actually an excellent point..! I never thought the acting in Year 1 was stiff at all. It was a different style of film-making, pretty realistic actually, than Trek, which it was .

Despite all the ITV-generated press about the revamped 2nd Year (more action, more emotion, yada, yada, yada..), I really liked Year 1. It worked just fine.

It's a shame the folks in the NY offices felt the American public wasn't 'getting it' and decided to 'americanize' the 2nd year, losing the show's distinctive style and sophistication.
    Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I'm a big fan of both shows and don't want to see either one remade.

I recently re-watched space 1999 (two months ago) I loved it as a kid but as an adult it bored the living crap out of me the stories are decent effects are okay but the acting is so....I don't know, forced or stiff.

It should be remade it wouldn't be hard to be better than the original.

I don't remember UFO. I have a bucnh of the Space 1999 DVD's. It's pretty cool in a retro sort of way....good for the nostalgia. But I agree the acting was stiff.....it's the Brittish thing

She's a cutie but I never could watch it too seriously because of the purple wig being part of the uniform.

Gerry Anderson must have been smoking some good stuff when he thought that up

No that's not quite it for me.I like plenty of British shows. It felt like the casting was totally off and the acting was just way to forced and stiff not british upper lip stiff just stiff.

Enjoyed both shows "back in the day" (and still do via the DVD's) though the "style shock" between Season 1 and Season 2 of Space:1999 was quite a jolt (when new producer Fred Freiberger came on board to make the show more "mainstream" for US audiences ... you do know he also did the last season of classic Star Trek as producer too, right? )

Year 2 was a reduction to boring euro-trashiness in a few aspects, lame '3rd Season Lost-in-Space' stories, compared to Year 1's spectacular, yet eerie cosmos journey.

Plus you had Barry Morse and the ultra-cool Main Mission set!

I liked Catherine Schell acting and subtle humor, but really didn't like Maya's shape-shifting ability at all (WAY too convenient plot device..).

She lives just down the road from me, never had the nerve to go and find out where though.

I'm one of the few people who likes Space 1999 season-2 better then season-1

Season-1 does have some good stuff like a killer theme song and Dr Bergman, but the rest of it is kind of dry.

Season-2 was just plain more fun and easy to watch.

For Season 2, I liked the cool uniforms, base defense lasers rising off the lunar surface, general congenial atmosphere, and some of the new sets. Tony and Bill Fraser were my favorite characters, as I enjoyed the beefing up of Alan Carter's role over Season 1.

Episodes like 'Beta Cloud' and 'Immunity Syndrome' are cool to watch.

I just didn't like some of the mid-season 'Brian-the-Brain' stories and how Maya was used with all the shape-shifting..
