I'm a LOTR guy as my tops, but I like every single one of the movies everyone else has listed.

The best? With all due respects to Star Trek II and Raiders of the Lost Ark (a very close second and third respectively), I would have to go with Planet of the Apes.

It just works. A solid story all around, and the way the story is told flows flawlessly. You just feel a part of the thing as events move along. My only complaint about it is that the astronauts didnt figure out they were on Earth when the Apes all spoke english...but thats a very minor squibble. Everything else was perfect.
Sadly, the sequels, though entertaining, never measured up to the same high point as the original.
... The less said about Burtons fiasco in the bannana patch the better.

all great choices and most in my favorite movies category. I would also add:

            Conan the Barbarian
            The Thing
Journey to the Center of the Earth (James Mason version)
            Superman the Movie
            the Harry Potter series
            I am Legend
            Independence Day

For fantasy it's Ray Harryhausen all the way. Seven Voyage of Sinbad rules.
