I can honestly say with pride ... I was one of the few people who watched Flash Gordon new in the theatre (at age 15) and got the joke and totally enjoyed the movie -- long before it became a "cult classic"

I still remember my local pizza place having the Flash Gordon single in their juke box

I saw it twice in the theater and I just plain loved it, I was oblivious to it's camp until later on.

"Flash I LOVE you! But we only have 24 hours to save the earth..." Wow. What a disposition to be in. Yeah, Flash is a fun movie, but one you have to turn in your disbelief badge at the front door before sitting down to watch. Purposely shot to be over the top both in appearance and in substance. Flash is a great escapist film. If you have any imagination at all, this is a fun ride and makes you feel like a kid all over again. The Queen music is perfectly adapted to the quirky style of the film. This is one of those films that is perfectly suited for a lazy Sunday afternoon. A classic in it's own right.

...Still love it after 27 years. It's really not even all that campy, it's more of a serial/comic strip feel with constant "build ups" and "arcs". Each set of scenes could easily be a series of comic strips, this really ties it to FG roots... I still dig it!

Loved this film when it came out, but just like the Batman TV show, I took it all seriously and didn't get the joke. Now I get it and still love both of them.
