    City of Lost Children

I started watching this movie ages ago, but never saw the end. I keep meaning to, and since it's On Demand and I don't work today, I thought this would be a good chance. There are some genuinely cool scenes, plus Ron Perlman, plus that neat truck with the eyeball door. But I'm having a lot of trouble sitting through it. I like the parts with Perlman, the orphans, and looking for his brother, but the clones/twins/whatever those boys are really bother me with their slapstick. I'm hoping something terrible happens to them along with that brain in the aquarium. Is anyone here a fan or this movie?

I think I tried to watch that many years ago. I couldn't get beyond 30 minutes of the movie, if I remember correctly. Some of the cinematography is fantastic, which is why I wanted to see the film, but the story could not hold my attention.

I just finished it. Like you said, some great cinematography, but still a very slow movie.

I liked it. Yeah, foreign films and French ones in particular are very unique and different in their story-telling techniques, but that was one of the things I personally liked about this film. A little slow, yes, but pretty cool over all.

This is a fantastic film. I have it on widescreen video which shows you how long it's been since i watched it. I must do so again.

I liked the people they chose for the roles though. The twins, the clones/the Original, even that little tiny lady, all had very interesting faces. This is one of the first French films I've ever seen. I did some reading on it, and I also found out that the dubbed version is almost universally regarded as the lesser movie. I might have done better watching it with subtitles. I've heard that Perlman re-recorded his own lines in English, but the Russian accent kind of threw me at first.

              Ahh, the French,

check out Delicatessen, same director. Less in the fantasy realm and a bit more character based.

This same crew did the Alien 4 movie. An odd bird indeed in that series. I rather enjoyed that one.

different director, also French, also sort of slow paced, but an AWESOME flick with great animation.

I agree with you guys - it's a great looking film, but kind of dull.

"Delicatessen" and "Amelie" are both really great.

I dunno, the dubbed version of My Neighbor Totoro (Tonari no Totoro) works pretty well, tho my daughter watched the subtitled one for a year or more before she ever heard it in English. It was her favorite movie; it may still be. On the dubbed version, you get to hear the cool song at the end in English as well.

Totoro, Totoro Totoro, Totoro Who leaves the Seeds? For you to find? Follow him and you will see a Treasure there... Then plant the seeds... And help them Grow....

                    yep

Once you've seen something undubbed (original), you can never go back....

I've heard Schwarzenegger, Chris Lee, Sean Connery dubbed.

I think cartoons do work okay dubbed, and of course Kung-Fu movies. Other than that I agree 100%.

don't forget Godzilla, I wouldn't have had half the fun watching those as a kid without the odd sync dialog.

Kung Fu movies NEED to have subtitles for me. I cannot and refuse to watch a dubbed movie (unless it was an old spaghetti western).

Aww Yeah. I Love Kung Fu movies. The Shaw Brothers made some of the best. In the past few years they've been releasing alot of there classics restored with the original Mandarin soundtrack.
