The timeline was screwed before Nero arrived (look at the uniforms and technology of the Kelvin).....dont think it will ever "correct itself". JJ and crew were looking for an excuse to appease us old Trek fans, and the timeline thing was the hook they decided to hang that hat on.

I think it's hilarious that in every possible universe Pike gets messed up! He's like O.J. in the Naked Gun movies.

I just watched this again tonight and Captain Kirk does indeed Relieve Admiral Pike at Starfleet in that ceremony, so he is the Captain of the Enterprise and he takes Spock as his First Officer.

I thought this movie was better this time than when I first saw it. I take great pride in the fantastic irony that I've seen it twice for free. Once free in Theater, one free DVD. Lol.

I hope JJ uses his timeline excuse to stay divorced from the rest of the Trek stuff. You know, where the science was a bit better, the future was bright, economics had become a non-issue.

Albeit I acknowledge Starfleet and Politics were still not uncorrupted, but you can't win em all.

Oh, and yeah, on the other timeline, I thought Uhura was much hotter, but I digress.
        :O

Is it written in stone JJ will make all subsequent Star Trek movies based on the new timeline ?

Or, will it be like the older Batman franchise where Burton only started it off and then left the franchise to others ?

I'm sure it will be like that eventually. Right now, he is making another one and I'll assume if it is a hit, than Paramount will try and keep him going. Then again, I thought Raimi would always be doing the Spider-man movies until they didn't make any money.
            It's all good!

What Spider Man movie did not make money? 3 was a big hit, even if it wasn't the most popular of the series.

Abrhams will do one more and then I think he will move on. He is the go to guy in Hollywood right now and he has lost of other things going. Maybe they will bring rick Berman back for new Trek 3...(kidding), not let's Shatner direct one and then he would do a cameo as a very old, but vital Kirk...LOL

I'm pretty sure Underdog meant that he thought Raimi would stay with Spidey until it quit making money. But apparently Raimi left well before the money stopped flowing.

I am not caught up enough in Trek to comment on the rest. I did watch the movie again recently and it wasn't as bad as I thought, as a stand-alone. My 11yr old liked it but said "I wish they'd have made it with the old guys."

                Ahhh, my son...
