Question about the new Star Trek ending (spoilers)

It's the end of the Trek movie and Kirk is being given an award and command of the Enterprise "in relief of Admiral Pike".

They way they say it, it sounds as if Pike will be on the Enterpise too (when he fully recovers from his injuries).

I wonder if the situation in the next movie will be similar to the setup they had on Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea where Lee Crane was Captain of the sub but deferred to Admiral Nelson who was always on board.

It makes sense, they made Kirk Captain, gave him command because... well, he saved the Earth and Pike. But still they are not ready for him to be the sole authority on the Enterprise. So, Pike will be with them.

I think that makes sense since I'm sure they want Pike back for the next movie.

I don't think that's the case at all...I believe that it was just the official handing off of the His command of the Enterprise to Kirk. More of a Military tradition.

I was kinda surprised that Pike was still lucid, after having that Romulan bug stuffed in his mouth so it could suck at his brain.

No, I think, as the Bat said, this was the movies quickie way of getting Jimmy T. into the Captains chair. Pike is now a paper pusher....who may or may not have a real nasty accident in the future on a class J starship full of cadets? (It could still happen?)

I agree Jessica... they didn't seem to make much of the "bug" thing after we saw it going down his throat.

I think they got to him before that bug did serious damage.

In the next film, we'll see the gang having breakfast together.
Pike will then grab his chest and start coughing.

Before you can say Heimlich Maneuver, his chest will burst open...

I had the same idea.....and commented about this in my other posts(Pike as captain...Kirk as first officer)
The bugs were them same ones used by Kahn in "Wrath"...you don't die if your treated in time.

Pike is done with the story....they put him in a wheelchair as tribute to the original series episode the Menagerie....I doubt we will see the character again.....except maybe as a cameo giving Kirk orders over subspace

There is talk of Chris Pike and/or Robert April being used in next films

lol. A friend of mine who saw the movie with my wife and I was disappointed that Pike wasn't like that at the end of the movie. I'm not even sure that the chair is going to be permanent because it was a simple wheelchair. Wouldn't they have some sort of antigrav type thing then if he was going to be in it for awhile?
                              It's all good!
