funny, i dont see a turd i see gold. as a new fan of star trek, i understand this, old trek fans are getting old (and/or) dying off. so paramont wants to bring back star trek and reel in new generations of fans. same goes for GIJOE...franchise needs more fans and the more fans the more money they'll make. i'll support the film by seeing it, and buying the toys.

I understand exactly how Mike feels...Kirk, Spock & Bones are like old Friends to Me. I guess I'm just not willing to let them go.

Listen, I am as big a fan of Trek as anyone as most of you know and believe me when I say that this new movie will not hurt the original or any other past Trek series what so ever.
As we said in the early 70's we can once again say in 2009, "Star Trek Lives!"
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

"Star Trek Lives!" refered to the gaining popularity of the classic televison series reruns throughout the 1970's.

It had nothing to do with new product and especially nothing to do with any kind of counterfeit fake Trek

Geeze, let it go already. You can try and filibuster us all you want with your negative attitude towards this new film but all you will do is keep making yourself look and sound like an ***.
The film was made, it is a reality and will happen whether you like it or not.
Honestly, you can't truly judge something you have yet to see and hear first hand with your own eyes and ears so please do yourself and everyone on this board a favor and be quiet already, especially since your opinion is based on what...a couple short movie trailers, a few released movie stills and couple posts about a few scenes which some or all might or might not actually be in the film.
Despite the fact that there are some fans, and I use the word fan lightly especially with you, this film will still come out and help generate new interest and new fandom for Star Trek once again. Star Trek Lives may have stood for the gaining popularity of the series in reruns in the 70's but that doesn't mean it can't be used in this situation as well Star Trek will gain in even more popularity thanks to this new film. So yes, Star Trek Lives...again.
This new film will do something all the current reruns and remastered DVD episodes can't do very well anymore and that is get a very large number of peoples interest back on Star Trek once again. In doing so there will many new and excited fans who will want to know the history of Trek and will go back to see where it all started, to see where they first boldly went where no man had before..
It will, and actually has already started in also bringing new Trek toys into the large main stream dept stores again. This is not only a good thing for new Trek fans but for old fans alike as again it will generate more interest in even more Trek toys and memorabilia (beyond the movie toys) with toy companies and other manufactures of such collectibles.

Yes, Star Trek will live again.. for a whole new generation but in doing so it will not take anything away from the past series, especially the first and original. If anything it will bring a new spotlight onto that from which it came and that can only be a good thing.
Star Trek will Live Long and Prosper.

And what do you look like -- calling yourself a real Trek classic trek fan and defending this counterfeit turkey ?

I might be an asssp, but at least i'm not an asssphat

Do you think all of us who are classic trek fans but are willing to see the movie are being "asshats"? I don't know about anyone else but I'm going to see this purely because Nimoy is in it. Nimoy playing Spock gets my *** in a theater seat, no question.

No, just the person who called me one first.
