Star Trek Sceen Shown at ShoWest!

Quit over at "Ain't it Cool News", got the see a Star Trek clip at ShoWest that involved Kirk's Bar fight!

"The Trek stuff was for Chris Pine who was accepting the Star of Tomorrow award and was, of course, a Kirk-centric scene, him picking up Uhura at a bar. He asks what she’s studying and she tells him, not thinking he’ll know what exactly it is. He surprises her, saying her study focuses on alien language and culture. She’s impressed, but still sly.

Pine plays Kirk as cocky and a bit drunk. A big dude comes up to Uhura and asks if she’s being bothered by this guy and she says very much so, but she can handle him. Kirk gets into the meathead’s face… like I said, cocky. The big guy’s friends come up and he says something like, “What’re you going to do? There are four of us.” And Kirk responds with a “I’ll let you get a few more so this will be a fair fight” and gets a punch in the mouth for it. He smiles as he grabs his bleeding chin and then fights back, taking the big dude out.

Pine was pretty good, I thought. He was certainly not imitating Shatner, but had the charm. I’m interested to see what exactly he brings to the full picture."

Sounds to Me, like they're capturing Kirk's cocky attitude!

I have no problem with people expressing their own opinions but usually an opinion this strong is based on something pretty solid and since you have not actually seen the movie yet what are you basing your strong opinion on exactly?

I am hoping for three things with this movie:
One, that it is a very good movie in general.
Two, that it is a very good Star Trek movie.
Three, that it does very well at the box office.

But unlike some people I can't give a strong opinion of the film yet since clearly we really have very little to go on so far to base any kind of strong opinion on. I think it has the potential to be very good, and of course it also could fall short of being what many are hoping for. So far all I can do is hope and wait and hold off on any opinion until I finally get to see the actual finished product, and so I wait... and read other peoples opinions
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

I do like Chris Pine as an actor, so I'm hoping that he does a good job. I will always be enamored of TOS and Mr. Shatner, but that doesn't mean that I want this movie to fall flat on it's face either. To me Star Trek is the original series, but I too am holding my judgment until I see it.
                    It's all good!

It's a remake of an old TV show.

What are the chances of a remake of an old TV show not sucking ?

Wow, that is a brilliant deduction there

Let me think... oh my gosh..you know your right MIke. Now that I think about I can't remember any past popular TV series that were remade into a movie that were popular. Like those Chris Reeve Superman movies (keeping in mind it was an old popular TV series starring George Reeves first) totally sucked. And let's not forget these Spiderman movies (again was first a TV series) as they totally sucked major you know what too. Actually if I remember right it was the Spiderman TV series that was questionable LOL.
And let's not forget those crappy Batman movies that came many years after the popular Adam West and Burt Ward series, where with the films you can even take your pick over either the first few Tim Burton ones or the recent Christopher Nolan ones. Yeah, that "Dark Knight" one in particular really sucked a wet one LOL

I thought I would chime in again, this time to defend T1K a bit. Sometimes certain things to folks just don't "feel" right to them. I can totally respect the fact that someone might just be so comfortable with how TOS was that anything else would be like coming home to a stranger rather than a family member. On top of that we are all trying to tell him that this stranger is his family member, "just try it out, you may like it." Hope that analogy helps.
                              It's all good!
