Not sure if it's true, but I read somewhere that they considered making the
God like being they found be Gary Mitchell from the orignal series, which woulkd have been cool.

If the Shat had his way, God would have revealed himself to be...William Shatner.

Its true. I've read the script (years back) and it made way more sense. No Sybok, and an ending worthy of Trek, with Kirk and Mitchell fighting it out to the bitter end.
At one time, the script was considered the original pitch by Shatner, but last I heard it was in fact commissioned by Paramount as an alternative story to the Shatner/Bennett "meeting God" pitch, which nobody liked, including Roddenberry....who ironically had pitched the same basic idea back in the seventies for the first Trek film?!

I like Star Trek 5. It's the one movie that gets away from the politics of the Klingons and Federation, (like 3, 4 and 6), and tells it's own story.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

Oh Man....that would have been GREAT!! "Where No Man has Gone Before" is one of My favorite Episodes, and I LOVE the Character of Gary Mitchell!! What a shame it didn't come to pass.

Would have been a great ending, but not for new viewers, who wouldn't know of the character...

STAR TREK 5 was the worst original crew movie. The story had potential but was turned into a bad movie. It was made to get another trek film in the can.
Talking about the NEXT GEN movies.......Rick Berman was a bad trek producer
He made many many mistakes and mis-steps.Generations was a bad idea period....First Contact was great movie....Inserection was a good TV movie of the week....Nemesis made a lot of mistakes.
The new STAR TREK movie is set in a different space time line so I don't know it will turn out.Trekers aren't sure either. We will see..........

Filmed, but later scapped because it looked unconvincing ... the scene where the "rock creature" is chasing Kirk.

Note: rock creature is behind him in the distance and resembles The Thing

V had a lot of potential but ultimately was disappointing. I did like the characters interacting....it showed the deep friendship they have. the Klingons were poorly used and the ending was crap....Sybok was an unneeded plot point and the Romulan amabassador they had was awfull........but as posted previously, there are some good points too.....Kirks questioning why god needs a star ship and the feel the pain scenes....it's still a watchable movie and much better than Nemesis or Insurrection....hell it is even better than Generations

I certainly don't hate it like I suppose I am supposed to. In fact, I enjoyed it, even though it's anything but a good movie. The big problem with the effects for me is the stop motion animated look to the spaceship scenes.

I did notice that figure in the scene you post T1K. Isn't it ironic that the Trek parody Galaxy Quest has a rock creature like Shatner wanted.

I know. I don't get out that often. There was a camera crew at Wondercon asking about Watchmen. Don't know what that is, so I didn't have anything to say. Otherwise I would have been on tv.

The first time I saw Star Trek 5, I got so drunk on Southern Comfort that I fell asleep about 30 minutes in and passed out. When I woke up, the drive-in was deserted. I finally saw the full film later (after giving up the alcohol) and realized I didn't really miss much. I like it, but it's not my favorite.
