      Hmmmm....

4 was my fave 'cos it was one of the only times you got to see the characters be the characters. Ship fights and action/adventure is nice, but it all plays out pretty much the same. It's when you see a character doing normal things you start getting an idea of who they are.

      That, and it was funny.

The problem with Undiscovered Country (for me) was it was just too unbelievable.

Sulu is Captain of the Excelsior .....
No way ... Just because he loves and wants the Excelsior don't mean Starfleet is going to give it too him as his first command... In fact, there's no chance this would happen.

Rura Pente explodes near the Excelsior .....
Perfect, the main event of the show happens in front of a main cast member...

Spock suddenly is acting as an ambassador ... and of all places, with Klingons ?

Spock volunteers Kirk and the Enterprise to be the first olive branch --- AND STARFLEET GOES ALONG WITH THIS ??????
        Are they just STUPID ????

The Enterprise don't know if they fired the torpedo ?
Star Trek 2 showed how many men it takes to load a torpedo ... Just ask one or all of them.

I could go on --- i'm only into the first quarter of the movie - but you get the idea.

Undiscovered Country is a fun and decent movie, but when you add up all it's faults, it's way worse then Star Trek 4

I liked Undiscovered Country, but felt it had too much of Scooby-Doo ending. "Our plot would have worked if it wasn't for you old-timers and your starship!"

Also having an old style galley annoyed me. I know they mention turkeys cooking in the Charlie X episode in the TOS, but seeing what looked like a kitchen...
          It's all good!

I forgot who said it, I think it was Kim Catrall, but somebody explained TO CHEKOV what would happen if a phaser is fired in the ship.
            Like Chekov doesn't know ??? .....

That scene reminded me of the scene in Spaceballs where they explain the plot -- then look at the camera and say --- "Everybody got that ?"

Star trek 4 ended the trilogy on a high.It was a fun movie
Star trek 6 ended the original crew movies on a high as well.It wasn't perfect but that was OK.It also left trekers with a good taste in there mouths as redemption for STAR TREK 5

Since the characters were out of their element, I can deal with it, but it gave them the "bright idea" to carry it on and do it again in ST5, and I still remember coming out of the theatre after that one going ***? as well as pretty much everyone else in the theatre.

The characters just weren't who they were. Sure, Trek had done humor episodes in the past, but no one was "silly". ST4 had a lot of silly. Really, would Kirk ever answer a communicator hail saying "what is it, I thought I told you never to call me?". I think not. If he ordered radio silence, he wouldn't have whined when it was broken.
Although I love the movie, I know exactly what you mean. They sometimes went against character to make a crowd pleasing scene. Like when Spock neck pinched the punk on the bus for no good reason at all, in a way that draws attention to both him and Kirk. What if the bus passengers assumed that Spock harmed or killed the punk (as a matter of fact, the bus passengers reaction is not realistic either)? The scene sacrificed verisimilitude for a quick crowd pleasing moment.

BTW, UnderdogDJLSW did you know that the Scooby Doo unmasking (including the Operation Retrieve subplot that led up to it) was not in the original theatrical version of the movie but only added for home video? This is why Rene Auberjonius (sp?) is not listed in the closing credits.

Yep, I do know that, but still find the whole "who could be the murderer?" mystery to be very weak regardless of whether the Klingon assassin is edited to be a real Klingon or just Odo with a mask

The changing the timeline thing did bother me a bit during IV, because giving away the aluminum formula was basically the same as when McCoy stopped Edith Keeler from getting hit by a truck in TOS. But in this case, by the desire of the scriptwriters nothing happened. Ultimately, though, I really enjoy all of these movies, because they are just movies and are meant to be fun. It is fun to talk about all of the plot holes, too. Keeps the movies fresh to me.
                  It's all good!

Haven't watched it in awhile but wasn't that brought up in the movie and explained away by Scotty?:
"Well, how do we know he didn't invent the stuff?"
                    Or something along that line.

I know most put Wrath of Khan at the top, but for me I always liked Voyage Home the best. Cheesy Eco Message and dated Punk Rockers are a big part of the charm. It rates highly on overall entertainment value for me.

The Next Gen Borg movie is second on my list, then WoK.
