TVLand did the same thing with Batman. They promoted the heck out of getting it, aired it in prime time only briefly, then put it on some god-awful hour of the morning. Then it disappeared all together. They'd rather run reality shows now. It's like a less sleazy VH1, which is also totally useless now.

I don't have Trek yet on DVD

To what extent were the "Tricorder"-boxed sets from a few years ago tampered with?

A local station (Akron, OH market) runs the remastered stuff Saturdays at 2 a.m., but I find the new sound & reworked effects jarring.

What're the best DVDs for pure Trek, if available at all?
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

The 2 episode per disc releases and the tricorder box sets have the same stereo surround remixes but have the original effects. Remember, the majority of the time, the remixes sound just like the original mixes only with surround and stereo seperation.

I'm just a big enough fan to notice when they put the ship sound in when it wasn't before and when they somehow use the wrong music cue (beginning of Menagerie Part 2, they use a music cue that is similar to the original but was actually done for Doomsday Machine. That can be told on the end of the cue. There is also a bit of a change in when Pike's Rigal Fortress halucination begins) or when they correct mistakes, like in Charlie X.

They insert ship sound in the exterior scenes (and photon torpedo sounds for the proximity phasers in Balance Of Terror) natually because they want to take advantage of the stereo surround.

But the only way to get original sound is to go back to the VHS's or the laserdiscs. Even the versions shown on TV Land carry the remixed soundtracks. The G4 and Sci-fi channel were original soundtracks.

I love the 2-episode per DVD classic Star Treks.

Took me a few years, but I finally finished up my collection and have them all now.

I wouldn't trade them aways for the 4-episode per disc releases for anything.

They just seem to play better ... I think because they're single layer discs

The thing about both the "tricorder" and remastered TOS releases is that they have elaborate animated menus which look neat and are fun but become a bit too much when all you want to do is start watching "Cobromite Manuever".

The menu goes through it's business and you select an episode and it takes you to a sub menu for the episode. Also, there is no "play all" option.

If SCI-FI Channel doesn't produce the show, they don't want anything to do with it.

They're not the same channel they used to be.

I'm sitting here watching The Empath (not one of my faves) on TVLand right now.

Funny...Comcast has the codes (or what I assume are the codes for putting the programs on the guide) mixed up for The Empath annd Elaan Of Troyius for TVLand.

Sadly that can be said for a lot of cable networks.
Who remembers the old formats for these channels?:
                    CMT (country music videos)
TLC ( was more like discovery channel)
                    AMC (was commercial free)
                    TNN (bye-bye)
MTV/VH1 (do they even play videos anymore?)
f/x (remember all the live shows & old 70's reruns?)
cartoon network (used to play good cartoons)
                    etc etc
