      Hmmmm...
      I'm not excited.
      Not thrilled.

Can I just skip this Doctor?

I don't feel like watching another teen drama...

Unlike Davison who made an effort to act older then his years, I have a feeling this Doctor will be coached by the producers to act young and hip.

I think they noticed the teenage girl crushes that Tennant gathered up and will want to play this new boy out for all he's worth in that same manner and more.

It's just one more step in alienating their Classic Series fans -- which they couldn't care less about because they know their bread and butter is the young audience raised on reality shows, vampire love stories and all that dreck.

I too was abit shocked when the new (young) Dr was anounced,i was waiting for an older actor.

He might work out, then maybe not
David Morrissey from the xmas special would of been a great choice.

I kind of had my heart set of Sean Pertwee.

It proves never EVER trust internet rumours because they're NEVER-EVER true.

Agree Sean Pertwee would of been great too!

He would of been like Ecclestone's Dr,a bit more darker screen presence.

I'm gonna be a real weirdo and watch some episodes before I decide that the series is doomed and start burning my long scarf.

Well, I'm going to put some faith in Steven Moffat, I think he has a decent idea of how the show works. Matt Smith is a very good actor who will shine if he has the right scripts.

Exactly! So much for the smart money being on Patterson Joseph

I don't know Matt Smiths' other work but Stephen Moffat said that of all the actors who auditioned, the way he looked and the way he delivered the lines made him the only choice.

                      Time will tell.

On the BBC Breakfast programe this morning somebody made a good point that although he is only 26 the guys face actually looks strangely older, and I understand their meaning. The casting crew aren't stupid and they must know what they are doing.

Well as ever I shall give the guy a chance......not happy with the choice although I have nothing against Mr Smith..I do have faith in Moffet's writing though.
But IF story titles such as 'The Horns of Nike', 'Curse of the Phone Contract', 'Homework of the Daleks', ' The games console of Morbius','The Purse robber' and 'Facebook page of the Fendhal'....or listings describe episodes as ....this week the doctor foils an alien invasion by beating level 7 on his xbox....or ...the obligatory doctorless episode due to him going to hang wit his mates down the road innit....then I'm off.

I'm not happy about someone so young getting the part. I was hoping for an
older Doctor just to be different. When I saw the photos of Matt Smith the
BBC released I thought he looked like a pretty boy.

I'm willing to give him a chance though. Curious to see what his costume will
look like. Hopefully it will all work out.

I am not encouraged by this casting. Not that I know a lick about the actors in england who were considered for the part. even m ost of the Rumor actors were new to me. But a guy this young does seem to evoke a 20 something evening drama. As Mike said it isn't like any actor sticks with the role for long anyway . Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee are the only actors to go longer than 4 years in the role.

Now a companion has to be young too or it will look silly to have a 30 or 40 something taking direction from a "kid". If I recall the companions that have been closest in appearance age to their Doctor were Sarah with Tom (about 15 years different) and Teagen and Peter (about 10 years), And Chris Eccelston and CAPT JACK were very close in appearance age. BUT THE DOCTOR IS ALWAYS OLDER LOOKING THAN HIS COMPANIONS

By this choice i'm still trying to fathom what they are thinking ?

When the new series started, a lot of classic fans hated it ... but after a time they started to mellow a bit because the new series seemed to throw the classic fans a few bones...

Now, they go and do this --- almost a conscious effort to drive the classic fans away again.

                                It just doesn't make sense.

I personally think the show has been in a steady decline with each passing year since 2005 so i'm not that surprised.

It's almost like they're trying to kill it.
