I'm writing this before it was annouced who would take over as the new Doctor...

The BBC news seems to make it look like it's RTD who will decide who's going to be the next Doctor.

    Question: ... why ?

Isn't he going to be gone by 2010 ? --- the year the next Doctor takes over.

RTD should not be allowed to sabotage the show on his way out.

Well, duh, he's Jon Smiths brother, not to be confused with John Smith, his 3rd cousin.

Matt Smith is the youngest actor to play the Doctor

He is a relatively new face on tv....having roles in 'the ruby and the smoke'and 'the shadow in the north' (with Billy Piper)

Dunno- kinda got a bad feeling about this!

              Youngest Doctor ever?

Does everything have to appeal to the teen crowd anymore?

Looks like the new season will be subtitled 'Buffy the Dalek Slayer or Gallifrey-ville!"

Looks a bit to young to me, but as long as the storys are well written that shouldn't matter.

If you want info on Matt Smith go to IMDB.com or the BBC website where they have just put a lot up.

Sorry i don't know how to do the link thing.

Yea, 26 is way too young to be the Doctor.

Funny thing is, he's probably only going to last the usually 3 years anyway ... They'd might have well get an older guy to play the part.
I always thought 45 -60 was a great age for the Doctor

A young actor playing the Doctor just isn't convincing...
Davison, he did as good as job possible, but I didn't care much for him either.

Now that they have a "kid" playing the part, they'll probably do more girlfriend stories, blehhh.

I just can't see this guy as someone that's suppose to be 900+ years old.

I'm kind of surprised they picked such an ugly looking actor.

It actually gives me a bit of hope.

Well, I can honestly say i'm not excited or hopeful.

I kind of feel the same way I did 27+ years ago when I seen Tom Baker fall off that telescope and regenerate into Peter Davison.
It was more shocking at the time because back then in the USA there wasn't any media build-up coverage for Dr Who.
Most of us didn't know the 4th Doctor will regenerate until we seen it happen on TV.

I eventually got used to Davison, but I never much cared for him -- or anyone after.
Even though Pertwee was and always will be my fav Doctor, Tom Baker was MY Doctor (like most Americans at the time)
It was comforting knowing he was there somewhere.

Every generation has a Doctor to call their own and Tennant (a huge fan fav) is this generation's darling.

When he leaves, the series will lose a lot of viewers (like happened with Baker).

The show will not be over, but it will be less popular, imo.

Kind of like after Pope JP2's death.
People are still Catholics, they just don't care much for their new regenerated Pope

I think it'd be more interesting if, for the "youngest doctor ever", they went with like a 10 or 12 year old boy....he's got 900 years of experience but no one will take him seriously.
