I enjoyed this one more than the last two years specials but I'm getting a little tired of all the "Deus Ex Machina" that RTD seems to be in love with. I think it's important that you lay a little more groundwork to an ending, this one seemed to involve the Doctor simply finding a magic wand, other than that I really liked the plot.

Nice to see the other Doctors, finally.

The next story involves the Nimon, that's a really nice treat for the fans.

A villain from the 2nd, 3rd, even 4th Doctor would have been cool. When I heard the earlier incarnations were going to be shown, I expected JUST a bit longer scene than just a 1 second glimpse... Just a bit disappointed there.

I agrue with you a villian from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th Doctor would be nice. I would like to know about the Terrible Zodin that the 2nd Doctor refers to the brig in the Five Doctors storyline. The sixth docter also call Peri that in one of it his 6th Doctor stories. All I know that Zodin is a female and the encounter with the 2nd Doctor happened in the future. I have found no reference to her in any of my Dr Who Books.

There are many who are contemporary to the viewer who are clever and only need the tecnhobable explained (Like Sarah jane Smith, or Ian chesterton)

I agree about the family visits ENOUGH already. Pertwee's doctor had a "reason" to be there constantly in the new show it is so obviously a way to cut the budget on sets.

The historical dramas were always LOW ratings compared to sci fi ones. This was why they stopped making them. Histrical events have remained constant as settings for Who but true historicals are rare. There were several in the Hartnell era of the ones that still exist aztecs and Reign of terror are ok but Gunfighters and Romans are pretty awful. based on the stories that exist Crudades was probably brilliant. I am pretty sure the last true historical one was Black orchid in 82 (one i never liked), and the last before that was Highlanders.

I also prefered when the doctor was a lost wanderer (but I think JNT gave full control of the tardis to Colin bakers doctor) but since he can go where he likes they could very easily revisit places where old companions were left to see how they are faring (Say earth in the year 2190 to see Susan) or even visit Ian or the Brig the next time he is on contemporary Earth (Both actors are alive still)
Oh, I agree, the idiot companions are great for making the Doctor look brilliant. that's why I'd like to see a couple companions in the Tardis. That way you get the brainy one (like Nyssa) and the stand-there-and-look-pretty one (like Tegan). Throw in the middle of the road one (like Turlough or Adric) and there's fun for all.

You know what would be kinda cool? A non-humanoid companion, like the little red alien cyborg guy on the Titanic.

          Or a famous dog.

"What's that, Lassie? Timmy's fallen into the black hole again? You want me to follow you, girl? Allons-y!!"

I have to agree with yo kirk, it was good but nothing special, I liked the cyber king being a steam punk fan but it did lack a certain something the previous ones had, robot snowmen perhaps?

This leaves us with the same question ......

Will OUR Cybermen ever return ?

              Where are they anyway ?

The last the Doctor ever seen of them was Silver Nemesis (not counting the head in the story Dalek).

I'd love to see our Cybermen return.

Perhaps we'll get a better story then just "you will be assimilated"

Sadly I don't think we will see our classic cybermen again.
The new ones are very popular and the armored look people really like (good for toys too).

I don't collect the new DW toys have they even made any classic cybermen yet?

Knowing how the new series is produced, I don't think a return of OUR Cybermen is out of the question.

I can imagine the producers hyping a OUR CYBERMEN vs. ALTERNATE UNIVERSE CYBERMEN battle.

It just seems like something they're going to eventually do.

Seeing that picture convinces me the old ones will never return, todays kids would not accept anything that looked that bad.

                      Isn't nostalgia wonderful.

The thing is, OUR Cybermen are different then theirs so OURS can look different --- including wearing a "junkie" silver foil suit.

Their Cybermen are just robots with a human brain.
Our Cybermen have more human parts therefore designed more flexible.

Got to love the one on the far right in that pic of the classic ones. Looks like he's wearing an engine block or an air conditioner unit.

I think it was a vacumm cleaner housing

and I still love the look of the cybermen from the invasion and revenge of the cybermen era the best. I give a pass to the Mummies in ski mask 1st cybermen as a side effect of the time and the shooting style of the 60's Who. The suit had to be cheap and easy to put on. I never liked the earthshock forward ones (but at least they painted over the lower jaw plastic after earthshock

I also love the camer flash cone on the head.

the fact the Dalek design has held up and is still used is a credit to that designer

I thought it was quite proberly the worst of the New Dr Who's since 'love and monsters'......sigh...where to begin....HATED the cyber shades.....they looked like a tatty fur coat being pulled up a wall....the initial premise looked good with brass 'jules verne' victoriana like cybermen...but no....they were ruined by great aunty ethel's fur coat being thrown on them....why not cybermats????
Next the psuedo companion Rositta.....what an awful actress and attitude for a companion (even though she wasnt for a real doctor)....as she was from the same time period there is no way she would be so shouty, arrogant and brash...compare her character to the part of Miss Hartigan...angry victorian woman done so much better.
                                Cyberleader...wasted...absolutely wasted
Cyberking.....oh boy....Why oh Why use children to power up the cyberking when cybermen could do it so more efficiently seeing as they never tire....did RTD watch Transformers prior to writing this and say....ooooh big robot...never had them...apart from the giant robot that is...so Why did it have to be cybermen.....ho hum...and if it was meant to be a giant dreadnaught class ship...isn't it a bit against cybermens lore to have it shaped in their own image? They are supposed to have evolved past emotions...so why build a ship in your image...pride? arrogance? surely it is the most uneconomical shape for a ship????
Ok good things....and there arn't many.....Morrisey's version of the Doctor was very watchable.....a shame he was never going to be a proper one.
The flashbacks of past Doctors....at last....at long long last...well overdue..
The end speech about companions always breaking the Doctor's hearts.....nice speech
erm....thats it....I think RTD is going all out to try and hemmourage viewers prior to Moffet taking over.....not that Moffets choice of new Doctor shows any Balls...he has always said he wanted an older Doctor....ho hum
I will continue to watch of course...but you have been warned Doctor.....
ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF IT British by birth....English by the grace of God. Yes Jamie...it is big isn't it....
