    Day the Earth Stood Still

Just got back from seeing this movie and I have to say as a fan of the original movie I was well impressed I savoured every frame of it, I must admit I was a little trepidatious of seeing this movie as often I feel let down by remakes, but to my amazmeny no it was as good as it.

A must see IMO for fans of the orginal and fans of Sci-Fi in general, sorry about the ranting but I'm shattered writing this after working a sew late nights and early mornings this week

Thanks for posting your thoughts on it!

I toyed with the idea of going last night, but I sacked out early. I'm going to take in the Matinée in a few hours, though.

I appreciate you letting us know that it's not a time/money waster.

I can't wait to see this one myself. I love the original too. I hope I enjoy it as much.

When I heard Ted...err...Keanu was starring I immediately put it on my list of movies I won't bother seeing. Not only that but there are some movies that just shouldn't be remade.
The only person I can think of at this moment that ranks higher on my "do not see this movie" list is Tom Cruise.

Actually Tom Cruise is not a bad actor...certainly a hundred times better than Keanu Reeves.

Count me in for "Valkyrie". M. Emmett Walsh could be the lead and I'd still go see that.

Overrated and a wack-job and I personally can't stand him. Single-handedly sabotaged his own movie (War of the Worlds. Coincidentally, another movie that shouldn't have been remade). Any movie he's been in could have been done better by another actor (IMO).
But at least he's not out hugging trees like Leonardo Dicrappio.

I was of the same opinion for a while but I thought give it a go, and Keanu pulls Klattu off

I'm sure I'll probably see it when it comes out on DVD. I'll borrow it from someone. But I'm not wasting my money at the theater. I don't see too many movies at the theater anyway. Usually just big blockbuster-type movies or something that I really love (like Star Wars or Star Trek).

I'm not saying Cruise is great at everything, I hate many of his movies too.

But watch Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire...he is great in both of those. I also liked him in Legend.

But hey, you hate him, you hate him.

If you don't go to movie theaters often...then why make a big deal about not going to see When the Earth Stood Still?

Just rent it when you have the time.

Thing is it's not really that I hate his movies, I just hate that he's in them (ergo it's hard to enjoy them). I loved that one (name escapes me) he was an Irishman came to america and Nicole Kidman was in it. I saw Legend at the theater. That was better than it's given credit for.
But every time I see a movie with him I just can't help but think how much more I would've enjoyed it had they just cast someone else in his roles.
