Who else thinks "Star Trek" is going to stink ?

Just the gall of calling it "Star Trek" is enough to ruin it for me ... forget about everything else.

Mike---this can go "Sammy Hagar"----OR it can go "Brian Johnson".

There's no way to really know which way it'll actually be until it hits.

You might want to consider not jumping the gun until that happens.

Otherwise, personally, you come off like a Chicken Little or something
            like it.

I am skeptical about this one and it isn't cause I don't like the guy they got for kirk, which I don't. It is because part of what I enjoyed about TOS is the arguably poor special effects, cheap, fake looking sets, at times sexist or at least chauvenistic, and sometimes silly writing, and the overall unpolished look of the whole thing. I'm figuring it won't really "feel" like a prequel. Similar to Star Wars episodes 1,2 &3, which for me just didn't feel like they were set in a time before ANH. So basically no matter how good the film is or isn't on it's own, it still won't capture that essence that TOS had. Quite simply, IMO, it can't and that is why I don't think it will be that great. But hey, I'm a cynic and I hope I'm wrong.

and a sexist/silly writing style as a script priority."

Yeah---I don't think that's how they looked at the project from ground up.
You may be at risk going to see this new flick.

I agree, who the heck would want to pay for that? but at the time it was all there was, and for me, that's what made it so good. My imagination filled in the gaps. I hope it's the best Trek ever, but I'll be skeptical until I see it.

I can see WHY you'd be skeptical if those things we're talking about
are so important to your enjoyment of the new movie---hey, maybe
there'll be remanants of that old stuff ---or OTHER things that compensate
                      ---we'll see

The big question is will Mike even go see it to give it a fair chance?

I'll jump into your boat, T1K. I don't like the bad omen that surrounds the film. The first time I saw an image of the new Enterprise design online, I heard this snap sound and I looked over just in time to see my T1 Mego Capt Kirk fall in half. The elastic had broken and Mego Kirk was dead just like that.

You can't deny the omen. Megos never lead me astray.

Exactly. It could be crappy, formulaic tripe like the Brian Johnson era of AC/DC, or it could be a classic that not only builds upon, but dare I say, surpasses the original like Van Hagar did.

Are you serious? Apologies I couldn't tell.

If so, we have no common ground whatsoever.

(Even though my point still stands that it could go either way
                              with the Trek movie)
