The thing with Next Generation ......
They were at least decent, when they were the only Sci Fi game in town in the late 80's ---
    It was them or nothing
After that, most people began to see them for what they are --- a very dull ensemble with equally dull stories.

    BTW,
    I never liked First Contact.
First Contact is when Berman started changing Roddenberry's Star Trek established history --- and of course the big conclusion to all this New Berman Universe was Enterprise.

Nemissis and Insurrection were indeed painful to watch. All Good things ended Generation on a good note and bracketed the series nicely. Besides sucking the movies never really jibbed with the All good things ending.

DS9 was a bit better for me but as far as a movie I dont think anything could have toped the VERY long but good Dominion war series.

Voyager (Yawn) did they ever get home? I stopped watching. I mean after Aunt Kathey got chummy with Q, saved the Qs, helped care for Q jr. it got old. Any one of those could have sent them home in an instant, without them comprising any morals or what ever. Seems to me they wanted to stay lost.

For the most part I liked Enterprise. They had things rough. First the had to stay within the Cannon established by the future series then they had to visually look more primative even with better effects and such. Except for a few gaffs they did this well. I think "Looking into the mirror, darkly" Would have made a great movie instead of a two parter.Better then any of the next gen movies. They even could have thrown in a interphased Kirk (CGI) or such Making a stronger link to TOS then the Defiant/Tholian story line.

Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
      Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.

Ugh, bad subject for me. The TNG crew never got anything near a decent story/script with which to make a movie. I grew up with TNG and am extremely bitter about it.

Uggg this made me think. Even First Contact had its blah moments. sure I'll let them go with messing up the whole Zephram Cochran (Sp?) messed up back history deal BUT......

Gee who knew all the Federation needed to stop the Borg threat was to replicate some old 20th century machine guns and kick A##.

The time travel thing has a lot of loop-holes.

If Kirk could figure out how to go back in time ON PURPOSE (Assignment Earth)... And with the Federation's blessing (meaning they know how too) .......
He ddid it again in Trek 4

How come no other enemies ever tried to change history the same way ?
This secret is at least 100 years old today (Next Gen time)

            Why ?
Because it's a lousy easy plot that most self respecting writers would avoid... Because it opens up a can of worms we're discussing now.

People bring up points on why Insurrection is a bad movie...
and although I feel they are valid---I could still enjoy Insurrection

                however

Nemesis was the first Trek movie that I couldn't (or did really WANT to) follow.
                :(

Nemesis remains the only Star Trek movie I've never seen. I was a major Trek fan for years, but by the time Nemesis debuted, I was majorly burned out on Trek. Someday I'll sit down and watch it, but I doubt that will happen any time soon

They had to kill off Data. An Android won't age while Brent Spiner is! You could see the difference in his face in the movie vs the TV show.
Same with the Hologram Doctor from Voyager!

I thought Nemesis was just okay. For spectacle, I liked the ship ramming sequence, even though I kept wondering why the other ship wasn't simply bumped backwards in the vacuum of space (and what was anchoring the Enterprise when the other ship extracted itself from from it).

TNG always was dull. The series was all techno babble and talking heads. Then they decide to take over the film franchise and the first thing they do is try to "un-dullify" the TNG group. The biggest change is making Picard an action hero (ie-Kirk). Never worked--Nemesis and Insurrection was the pinnacle of this, especially with the stuffy, stodgy old gaffer trying to be a wild man with a Phaser cannon, and then the Argo car thing.

Generations sums it up in a microcosm---First, TOS part---Even without Spock or McCoy the first scenes are enjoyable and have some action and adventure.
Then we cut to the TNG part where our intrepid crew are...screwing around in the holodeck again. Then Picard cries, has an emotional crisis that nobody cares about, and sits on a rock. Kirk comes back, action and adventure returns as he kicks butt and saves the day, then I lose all interest again as our TNG crew ruins the whole movie for me by not dying horribly when the Enterprise crashes!!!

Dont get me wrong, as a tv show, TNG had its moments, but as a film franchise it just didnt have the right stuff.

The biggest problem with the TNG movies is most are just rehashed tv episodes if you get right down to it. Generations? Turn Geordi into a Klingon killing machine? Yeah, seen that in the tv series as was some other parts. First Contact? Just another episode with the Borg. Insurrection? Pretty much the same as the episode with the Native Americans and the Cardasians. Just with different aliens thrown in. Still trying to figure out what episode Nemesis is based on.

I prefer the NG crew...but yopur post made me "laugh out loud".

I always liked the "quirks" of the NG crew---made 'em more "fun"
for me. Stuff like Data wanting to be human---Picard disliking children---
Riker and Troi's torrid romantic past etc. etc.

When I watch TOS---well---they seem to lack that "fun"
---- in the TV shows at least
---once "Movie 4" (Voyage Home) was made---their personalities ---
their quirks ----really started to "pop" onscreen---

It seems as if around Voyage Home the whole mentality of Trek writers
changed from---less science fictiony dry material---to more "fun" stuff
---like, you know, that Tribbles episode----I liked it not because
it was "funny"---but because it was "fun"
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix

I need to correct myself. Geordi wasn't turned into a Klingon killing machine in Generations. Just kidnapped and brainwashed by Klingons. But pretty much it was along the same lines in the tv series.
