We went to see this the first time on the 2nd in a Century XD Theater and had DBOX seats...what a fantastic experience! The story, the acting, the visuals, the sound, and the music all came together to make this my all time favorite Godzilla film. My other half is a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE Godzilla geek and he is in absolute Kaiju Heaven. We went to see it again last weekend in an AMC Dolby Cinema theater which was also an amazing experience. He's caught a few standard showings throughout the week, and we're going again today to see it in a standard format theater. Can't recommend this one enough.

After first seeing it, the newness made me declare it the best Godzilla film since the first. And while I still agree with that sentiment, I now believe that two films hold that title, and depending on my mood, one will edge out the other.

Shin Godzilla is an undeniable masterpiece. An amazing, and harrowing film that brought the gravitas back to Godzilla. Truly a spectacle.

Minus One was a human drama, and it really romanticizes the postwar era of Japan. The reality was much darker, and it definitely could have leaned into that aspect harder.

But that wasn't what it was going for, and I respect it. It is still an outstanding film, but I now believe it is on par with Shin Godzilla, as opposed to eclipsing it.

Should I go see it a fourth time or go to the flea market and get a "import"?

Looks like a Black and White version will be coming to theaters.

One of the year's best movies, Godzilla Minus One, will get a black-and-white version that will release in Japanese theaters in early 2024.

I posted earlier that I'm more of a "classic" fan but after hearing nothing but praise, well, you talked me into it! Gonna be a while, though.

In the meantime, are any of the recent Toho or Legendary films particularly recommended? I have no fear of subtitles, prefer Japanese voice tracks and despite favoring the milder, more fun films, I've come to realize that I enjoyed the more dramatic Japanese entries, too.

It's modern Hollywood that gives me those dark, creepy vibes sometimes. There must be a leaky Despair Portal under at least one of those studio lots...

Toho: Shin Godzilla and Minus One are their two most recent entries.

I am not a fan of American Godzilla.

                          Cheers, B-Lister! I'll give Shin G a look then.

Ain't too purdy in this one, it seems. Looking forward to finding out why.

Absolutely the best film I've seen in five years or more and certainly the best G movie. This one hit all the right buttons for me. It was equally terrifying as it was uplifting. It was both a natural disaster film and an exercise in humanity. Often the largest and scariest monsters are the ones from within. Pretty much a perfect film for me.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
