I think it was the whole "gee whiz guys let's all go to the secret clubhouse!" corniness of it all. As was previously mentioned here, they tended to feel like what some old guy who grew up in the '30s thought kids still acted like. And even though it seems to be considered a classic now, the absolute worst of the lot has to be "Big". I mean, they had those kids acting like they were 4 years old, not 12! When I was that age, me and my friends were listening to metal (I refused to even leave my house unless I was wearing a Slayer or Exodus t-shirt), hanging around in arcades and trying to smuggle copies of Penthouse out of the local Krauser's convenience store, not riding around on our bikes searching for buried treasure. We were a lot more like the kids from "River's Edge" than the Goonies...
    Slayer!!

None of those mid eighties movies resonate with me, heck i've never seen Goonies.

I really wanted to like Monster Squad, the creatures are brilliant and i like the plot. It's ok but i find it a really uneven movie too adult for kids and too kiddie for adults. If I was 9 at the time, I'd probably feel as strongly about it as so many do. Don't hate it by any stretch, in fact I "give it a try" every 3-4 years.

Yeah, I did have a look around and found those methods, but I use a Sony BDPs-790 and those methods don't work with that machine.

I loved this as a kid but only saw it once on TV and don't remember it much at all.

My nine year old twins are into the B&W Universal movies and love the monsters, so I'm wondering if they'd like this.

I can see us watching this very soon.

As I said, I love this film but first saw it as a teen. I think it's strong stuff for younger kids, but then again I think kids are more advanced today.
