I know there's some fans here, so just wanted to put the word out.

Only saw Monster Squad once as a youngster, but absolutely loved it. By the time I got round to buying it on blu-ray the price had gone up something crazy. Don't have Netflix myself (cancelled it. No one was using it), but can't see us getting it on the inferior UK offering.Comment

Love this film. It's amazing how frequently, when discussing this film with fans, someone says,"Wolfman's got nards." Not as oft-quoted as Young Frankenstein perhaps, but still memorable.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

I'd never watched it before, so I streamed it the day I posted this. I can see why it's a fave of that generation, but man, the writing is so cheesy I had a hard time sticking with it. The dialogue wasn't genuine, say like Goonies, and sounded like what a 45 year old man thinks a 12 years old would say. But I get the charm of it I guess.Comment

^ I was 12 when this movie came out, and my friends and I REALLY talked like that...including saying some things that would get us in some serious trouble nowadays. The Goonies were far nicer and more sanitized than us.
But to each his own. I love it, and it's a staple for me and the boy at Halloween time. We talked about it on Super Mates last year.
It’s the final trip to the House of Franklin-Stein , and the Franklins have saved the best for last ! Okay, maybe not the best, b...

Shouldn't the line have been "Wolf Man's got 'Nads"? As in short for gonads? That line, though beloved, always bugged me.
For me, this movie is a near miss. The kids aren't as endearing as the Goonies, and it doesn't quite know who its audience is. Some of it is juvenile, yet some of the language, like Dracula cursing at the little girl, is surprisingly nasty.Comment

Hmmm, I might have to watch this with my kids this weekend.
Luckily there are ways around that, I can choose what country's version of Netflix I want to watch. Some countries have some great shows or movies on Netflix that aren't available in other territories.Comment

The marketing of that film was bad...near John Carter bad. But I do agree it's a bit of a mixed bag on just who it was made for. You have to be willing to let your kids hear some salty language to watch it.

I was watching it to see if I could show it to my daughter, and realized pretty quickly that that wouldn't be happening.Comment

It's funny, but even though I was roughly the target age (although probably on the older side) for these kinds of movies (Goonies, Monster Squad, Explorers, etc.) they've never really resonated with me. I find them sort of entertaining now, but at the time generally considered them "kiddie stuff" and avoided them. I think it was the whole "gee whiz guys let's all go to the secret clubhouse!" corniness of it all. As was previously mentioned here, they tended to feel like what some old guy who grew up in the '30s thought kids still acted like. And even though it seems to be considered a classic now, the absolute worst of the lot has to be "Big". I mean, they had those kids acting like they were 4 years old, not 12! When I was that age, me and my friends were listening to metal (I refused to even leave my house unless I was wearing a Slayer or Exodus t-shirt), hanging around in arcades and trying to smuggle copies of Penthouse out of the local Krauser's convenience store, not riding around on our bikes searching for buried treasure. We were a lot more like the kids from "River's Edge" than the Goonies...Comment
