Happy B-Day to Lon Chaney Sr.

The most famous face in horror was born today way back in 1883. Hard to believe he's been dead 83 years, and they're still making toys in his likeness.

Now why didn't Chaney warrant a Google banner today?

Interesting that he was born on April Fool's Day, since he was such an accomplished trickster, convincing audiences that things seemed different than they really were.

^That make-up still stands up so well today. It's human enough to be disturbing. These overly done, half-eaten zombie masters could learn a trick or two in subtlety.

          Ah, the Phantom

TCM showed a slew of Chaney films yesterday, and a documentary.

              He was a true artist.
He was going to play Dracula, imagine what kind of a count he would have portrayed!

Yeah, it's pretty amazing that during his very short career he made something like 180 films. Actors actually WORKED back then, not like these spoiled creampuffs today.

The classic films of Chaney hold up so well over the years.Unfortunately, alot have been lost over the years,fo example,London After Midnight.the make up in that film would almost rival that of The Phantom and definitely that of the Hunchback.

Is he related to Dick Chaney ?

                      I can see some resemblance
