What was (or is) your favorite Universal monster moment?

I know alot of us here are Universal Monster buffs. I've been going through my annual cycle of watching these films and last night was 'Frankenstein meets the Wolfman'. Now this particular film has it's issues with Legosi playing the monster. And we have all talked through the casualties this film suffered in the editing room. But for me, this movie DOES contain one of the most fascinating and enduring creations in the Universal monster series. And that is the frozen catacombs of the Frankenstein castle. As a kid I was fascinated by the image of this world that perfectly preserved the Frankenstein monster in ice. And as a kid I would reenact that scene many times. Even actually freezing my AHI Frankenstein in ice and swiping some of my dad's shaving cream to recreate the scene! Even now I still find that scene magical and interesting to watch. It remains one of my favorite moments, amongst a score of others. So I was wondering... Is there a particular scene, moment, or creation in the Universal Monster world that still mesmerizes you to this very day?

I love the Wolf Man and the Monster of Frankenstein being discovered frozen in The House of Frankenstein by Dr. Niemann and Daniel too, that is a great scene. Another favorite of mine is the scene in The Bride of Frankenstein where the monster is in the cavern under the ruins of the windmill and comes out of the shadows to attack the man who falls in with him. The first scene in Frankenstein meets the Wolfman where Larry/The Wolf Man rises from the dead is also one of my favorites.

I love the ice cave scenes, and the revival of Larry from the dead is one of Universal's most atmospheric moments!

The first scenes with Larry as the Wolfman in Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman are some of his best animalistic moments. When he leaps onto the crates and crouches...it just really works!

The scene with Pretorious and the Monster in the crypt from Bride is a great one. But almost every scene in that film is great!

This could be the best thread ever. I will have to think about this a bit, if it can evne be answered at all.

My favorite moment is in The Mummy when Boris Karloff comes to life in the sarcophagus...

Just imagine...you struggle desperately against the bandages holding you, until your air runs out and your eyes close for the last time...then, suddenly your eyes open again. It seems like only an instant has passed...but it's 3,700 years later. The bandages that held you so tightly crumble into dust as you begin to move your dried, leathery limbs....

              Hmmm..

              I love the Whale touch.

My favorite moments are probably Erik's ummasking & following scene, and his entrance as the Red Death; the Monster trying to catch the Hermit's violin music; Dracula's greeting & opening scene with Renfield; Griffin's scene with Flora on that fantastic drawing-room set, where he goes from tender to maniacal in one smooth speech; and Pretorius--any, but esp. the crypt scene.

I'm not sure I can narrow it down, choosing between Raines & Theisiger is difficult.

^The climatic scene in The Wolf Man is another great Raines moment. The look on his face while he watches the beast he slayed turn into his son is heart-wrenching.

Basil Rathbone and Lionel Atwill playing darts in Son of Frankenstein

                  Raines unveiling in Invisible Man

                  Pretorius' little people in Bride

Lugosi vs Van Helsing in Dracula

Graveyard and windmill scenes in Frankenstein

How forward Larry is when he meets Gwenn in the Wolfman

Lugosi's palm reading scene in Wolfman

Opening scene of Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman

                  Karloff's makeup in the Mummy

                  Every scene with Maleva

Villagers capturing the Monster in Bride

Gillman swimming with Julie Adams in Creature

And that's one major flaw in the remake: there's no-one really to sympathize or empathize with, it's just a slick claw-fest.

"He got up, and went for a little walk!" Hee heee..... great scene. Even the comedy relief bit is creepy.

I pointed that exact scene out to my son while watching it back at Halloween. I think the creepy, subtle part of that scene is just the way his eyes slowly come open and they seem so wet and alive (sleepy, but alive) in that dead, dry husk of a body.

The staircase scene from Dracula. "I am Dracula" That was the start of what became Universal Monsters. Yes, Phantom and Hunchback movies came first. But it I could pick one momment that truly defined the beginning of the Universal Monsters, it would be that scene from Dracula. Just awesome.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I'd have to agree, such an iconic moment - without a doubt the most memorable moment for me... gives me goosebumps! I love most of the original monster movies, but that scene was the hook.

I'm more of a Wolf-Man guy, but Lugosi's line "Listen to them--children of the night. What music they make." might be one of the best lines in film history.
